I saw a practial joke in Saskatoon, at about -25 C.
They took one of the reciprocating soaker type sprinklers, placed it in the middle of the car's roof, and turned it on low. The sprinkler had just enough water pressure to go back and forth, covering the car from bumper to bumper. The water froze about 6~8 inches thick, over every surface, right to the ground.
The middle car is VW Cabrio - mid to late 80s vintage. Might be worth $3500 - 4500 today. The Porsche on the right is also a mid 80s car - a Targa, and it might fetch $16,500 on a good day. The Tahoe/Suburban on the left looks like a late 90s or early 2000 model - $17,500 to 20K tops.
That's still a helluva loss - if there's any damage done at all.
