When you get the old grips off use some sandpaper to remove the old glue.Sometimes a little carb cleaner is needed to loosen the old glue up.

To put them on I just spray hairspray on the bars and then work the grips on...seems to work pretty well without any mess to clean the next time you change your grips.

^I agree. I put my renthal grips on with the recommended renthal glue and they've already started turning a little. I guess it depends on how aggressive you are on whether or not it's necessary. But otherwise just do what has already been suggested. Cut the old one off and clean the bar down really well.

I use some brown gasket sealer to adhere my grips.
spread it on the inside of the grip then slide it on.

it stays put, and all you have to do is cut the grip latterally and they come right off.

You wouldn't think it would work, but I use WD-40. They slide right on, but after it dries the grips are on there so good you have to cut them off.

And electrical contact cleaner works really good. Still good to wire them no matter how you glue them. I never used glue, only contact cleaner until I was "born again". Now I am just afraid not to glue. I use spray contact glue now, sparingly, or it takes forever to dry. Never had a grip fall off with contact cleaner though, or even get loose. To take them off you just pull the donut out a little and put in the contact cleaner nozzle ; give a squirt and a twist and voila, you didn't even need a knife, and you haven't destroyed your grip.
