Riding with a Hernia

I have a small hernia in my bellybutton, but nothing is actually protruding past it, it just fills it up. Gives me some discomfort depending on the day. Going to get it fixed at the end of March, so I'm trying to get in a bunch of riding before I go under the knife. I have an enduro that I want to do before then also.

My question is, would a kidney belt help? Anyone else ride with there guts hanging out? Am I nuts for riding with a hernia?

I can't remember how to spell it but I rode with an inigual hernia where the arteries and nerves pass through the abdomen to the leg. I had to where a special girdle to keep my intestines for protruding till the surgery. I was told that if they did stay out too long, they would twist, plug up and things would get ugly.

When I was in the hospital for the surgery, I was watching "Quincy" the coroner. He asked sam what the person died from? Sam answered "he just died during a hernia operation". Needless to say, my mom feeked out. It wasn't from the surgery, it was one of those "murder cases".

mgorman,With an inguinal Hernia the leg isn't the only place the tissue will protrude into.:eek:

Hernia discussion website? Whoa, just goes to show you can find anything on the web. Reading some of those posts makes me realize that I don't have it so bad, yet. That's why I'm gonna get it fixed, rest the four-six weeks, and hopefully never have the problem surface again (bit of pun there, I think).

I lucked out on that one. I am sure if it would have gotten worse I would have had to walk a little bow legged. Two's company, three's a crowd...

If it is too bad they will put a peice of mesh inside you sort of like patching drywall joints.

The type of hernia Mcassle has isn't so bad (surgery wise)from what I've read.I had 3 hernia's repaired in the scrotum area with the open mesh technique.The surgery itself wasn't bad,but the pain from something the Docter called "nerve intrapment"was the most inexplicable pain I've ever had.

That's comforting! At least I don't have that type, yet.

I've had one inguinal (sp?) hernia in the past, after fixing that one I was laid up for a good couple of weeks, like on my back laid up. No sneezing, coughing, or poopin'. Nada. Another month of super light duty at work, what an experience. Mabey I should just get the whole abdominal wall meshed at once and get to done with, jezz. At least this one, according to the doc, is minor. Gonna get the ol' vesectomy done too while I'm at it...I've been putting that one off. I'm nuts for putting that off though, after three kids...:eek:
