Rm125

Hey, i am thinking about getting a 1999 RM125 with fresh rebuilt top end and a few other aftermarket parts. He wanst $1,400 for it. Are they good bikes, I never hear too much about suzuki's. Are there any know problems, are they crappy bike, etc. Any info would help.

I have a 98 rm125...Love it to death. Hauls ass, handles good..... BUT is a pain in the ass trying to get parts for it. 98-99 have unique cases, and therfore few bottem end internal "options" are available.

Ive got a 97 and i have never had any problems with it. I kind of cheat on getting parts though. Its nice to have a uncle whos a top mechanic at Nielson Enterprises, so since im his most favorite nephew i get his 30% over cost discount :D

But anyways the only thing i have done to it is the top end and thats it.Runs like a champ and has decent low end and a somewhat hard hitting powerband. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

99 rm125

we have a 99 rm 125. It has a fmf topend pipe, v-force reed cage, phatracing head, 52 tooth back sprocket. After a drag race with a 05 KX250f that beat it by 2 lengths , I read Eric Gorrs site about the susuki exhaust valve. I cleaned the exhaust valve and raised the exhaust port almost level to the height of the exhaust valve inside the exhaust tract and gave the roof a rounded shape intstead of flat .Aproxx 3-4 mm of material was removed. The inside transfer port has a dip in the wall which i filled with expoxy to redirect the flow away from the exhaust port. This is something I learned from Mac Dizzys web site. I used the small chamber supplied with the Phatracing head after this work and have aproxx 175 lbs cranking pressure. After all of this , the bike pulls everywhere with no dead spots or sudden hits. It feels barky of the bottom. I played with the exhaust valve adjustment on the left side of the cylinder. I backed it off some to ease the power hit. I prolly need to study a suzuki manual to see if there is a set tension on this but we adjusted it for a smoother power delivery which is most peoples complaint with a 125. I have to wonder if most people would take the time to learn about 2 strokes instead of just buying a 4 stroke , they wouldn't need to be buying 800 dollar exhaust systems.

I had a 99 RM125 for 2 years. The bike ran excellent. Had good low end for a 125. Was dependable. Handled well. And would outrun bikes a few years newer. Same basic engine from 1996-2000, with the water pump inside the case halves. The only issue I had with the bike was the famous Suzuki grabby clutch.
