Dear Thomas,
I just got off the phone with the Governors office as well as other legislators. While recent CORVA alerts have gone out to thousands, few if any people have called urging legislators not to take your $90 million in Green Sticker Trust Fund money to make up for budget shortfalls. This is the money you probably paid with the express purpose of maintaining multiple use trails.
Unless a lot more people speak up you are probably going to lose $90 million. I know each of us is busy, but I just made a call to each of the offices listed below and it took me all of fifteen minutes including hold time.
Can you spare fifteen minutes for $90 million? Would you like to see trails closed and the environment harmed for lack of money that OHV owners already paid? Please make the calls!!! Make a call!! Do Whatever you can, but Please Do Something!!!
WHO TO CALL
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Phone: 916-445-2841
Senator Dave Cogdill, Senate Republican Leader Phone: (916) 651-4014
Assemblymember Mike Villines, Assembly Republican Leader Phone: (916) 319-2029
Senator Darrell Steinberg, President Pro Tem Phone: (916) 651-4006
Assemblymember Karen Bass, Assembly Majority Leader Phone: (323) 937-4747
Also please call YOUR LOCAL State Senator & Assemblymember who you can find at this link

(Enter your home address and then start making calls to your representatives)
WHAT TO SAY
1. Members of the public agreed to a fee increase to support a specific program, but now the revenue generated is being diverted from its intended purpose - a breach of public trust.
2. Borrowing from state funds that must be repaid does not solve the budget problem, it only defers dealing with the problem to a later date when it will be even more difficult to solve.
3. Using a trust fund as a revenue source sets a bad precedent. Trust funds are established to protect public funds for specific purposes. This could lead to diversion of funds from other trust funds in the future potentially including even entitlement funds.
4. The budget crisis must be resolved through a combination of spending cuts and tax increases, not more borrowing.
5. Draining the Green Sticker funds will eliminate environmental projects that would reduce erosion on public lands, maintain recreation opportunities while preserving critical habitat and protecting endangered species. Those projects need to be done now, they cannot wait until those funds are paid back years from now if ever.
ONE OTHER EASY THING YOU CAN DO
Copy the text of the letter provided at this link or write your own and submit it to your local paper under your own name in the letters or opinion section
