Dear Thomas,

I just got off the phone with the Governors office as well as other legislators. While recent CORVA alerts have gone out to thousands, few if any people have called urging legislators not to take your $90 million in Green Sticker Trust Fund money to make up for budget shortfalls. This is the money you probably paid with the express purpose of maintaining multiple use trails.

Unless a lot more people speak up you are probably going to lose $90 million. I know each of us is busy, but I just made a call to each of the offices listed below and it took me all of fifteen minutes including hold time.

Can you spare fifteen minutes for $90 million? Would you like to see trails closed and the environment harmed for lack of money that OHV owners already paid? Please make the calls!!! Make a call!! Do Whatever you can, but Please Do Something!!!

WHO TO CALL
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Phone: 916-445-2841
Senator Dave Cogdill, Senate Republican Leader Phone: (916) 651-4014
Assemblymember Mike Villines, Assembly Republican Leader Phone: (916) 319-2029
Senator Darrell Steinberg, President Pro Tem Phone: (916) 651-4006
Assemblymember Karen Bass, Assembly Majority Leader Phone: (323) 937-4747

Also please call YOUR LOCAL State Senator & Assemblymember who you can find at this link

(Enter your home address and then start making calls to your representatives)

WHAT TO SAY

1. Members of the public agreed to a fee increase to support a specific program, but now the revenue generated is being diverted from its intended purpose - a breach of public trust.
2. Borrowing from state funds that must be repaid does not solve the budget problem, it only defers dealing with the problem to a later date when it will be even more difficult to solve.
3. Using a trust fund as a revenue source sets a bad precedent. Trust funds are established to protect public funds for specific purposes. This could lead to diversion of funds from other trust funds in the future potentially including even entitlement funds.
4. The budget crisis must be resolved through a combination of spending cuts and tax increases, not more borrowing.
5. Draining the Green Sticker funds will eliminate environmental projects that would reduce erosion on public lands, maintain recreation opportunities while preserving critical habitat and protecting endangered species. Those projects need to be done now, they cannot wait until those funds are paid back years from now if ever.

ONE OTHER EASY THING YOU CAN DO

Copy the text of the letter provided at this link or write your own and submit it to your local paper under your own name in the letters or opinion section

Thanks for the heads-up Chris.

ALL Californians need to step up and respond to this. This is not the first time the greedy politicians of this state have stolen our green sticker money.

When we go to the county meetings to ask why we don't have any good cycle parks in the county, they tell us there is no money for that. BULL****! :yell:

They use our green sticker money for enforcement, to protect bugs and lizards, buffer zones for parks that don't even exist and now to pad their own greedy pockets. Everything but what it was intended for.

If we don't respond to this, we have nobody but ourselves to blame.

Good news.

Thanks to those that took the time to send letters and phone calls, the governator has decided to only steal $60,000,000 from our OHV funds leaving us $30,000,000.

Wasn't that nice of him??? :fft:

Keep the pressure on. It's working.

Remind them that we already pay the highest taxes in the whole USA here in California. The highest gas taxes, the highest business taxes, the highest personal income taxes and so on. Also, they doubled our green sticker fees this year. Just so they could steal them. :|

It's up to us to let them know that we've had enough.
