I've heard that the performance gain from those is mostly associated with the fact that your wallet will be lighter. And that's pretty much all.

These products effect jetting, for you. When mx bikes get modded, some bore the carbs bigger. Never has making the bore smaller been thrown in as a viable option. Now a trailbike, wait a minute. Detuning and moving the hit from top to bottom is a seemingly a good idea? The same as putting a washer in your exhaust flange? So what is the issue, detune it or jet it? Detuning, the drop in flanges are more money than reworking the head. You could buy a whole jetting kit a lot cheaper! I do believe Fredette has jumped in a selling these now. They are cheaper than a new, smaller carb. You will never jet an engine with issues like, reeds, silencer packing, crank, rings, piston, exhaust valve, crappy fuel,,,,,,, or slap the blades in?

RB carb mod involves installing a divider plate in the carb throat for improved low end response. This is combined with a larger bore size in the carb as well though. The RB carb mods have been shown to produce a dramatic increase in performance. I am not sure that the divider plate WITHOUT boring the carb larger would be a benefit rather than a hindrance.

I have read statements from people that like the powernow, and others that found it a complete waste of money. I think the money would be better spent on reeds and sending the head to RB for machining.

All guy talk. You will never see an actual/accurate dyno run to back up this product, or any likeness. The colored drawing from scraynow tells all, they do not even have a clue that there is a pressure wave that moves just like a sound wave, through the carb! But I bet they need money! So now some company(rb) is trying to compensate for the obstruction? And exactly what effect does the plate have on the pressure wave? 99 out of 100 guys felt the difference? And?

So now we're off to trashing Ron Black? Sweet. Ron has been modding carbs in his particular fashion a lot longer than the bs scarynow product has been around. Scarynow is just trying to cash in on something that "some company" uses in conjuncture with other modifications to improve the overall performance of the carb. Regardless of how you feel about "sound waves" and carbs, Ron's mod has been shown time and time again to improve the overall throttle response and power delivery on many different bikes.

cheapest place that I have found the reeds were on ebay. Just type in 607 boyesen. Don't worry if it says yamaha/suzuki or if they say that they are for a four wheeler. Just as long as they are the 607. This was probably the best $44 I have spent on my bike.

No bashing, read again? BUT, since you brought it up? A quick google hit on the third page, a redirect from our very own dirtrider no less! Kind of a plain no non sense website, for a guy. Seems to be more quad directed, sleeves, porting and carb mods? As I was afraid, no proof. Dyno, SAE, nada? All guy talk. 125 bucks would cover a JD jetting kit, a shop manual, and check out Spankie's or Eric Gorr's jetting guide. Eric's information is impeccable, but Spankie's gets through to the "harder to accept reality". http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/showthread.php?t=172481&highlight=Spanky's+jetting+guide , http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/showthread.php?t=60392&page=2&pp=10&highlight=jetting+fast , http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/showthread.php?t=92818&page=1&pp=20 . Everything you will ever need to know.

How many pro teams use carbs that are moded like this?

If they aren't using it, I'd say it's a fair bet that the "technology" is useless.

I don't see how it couldn't make a difference. Seems pretty solid to me. I will be sending mine off this winter, and I will try to do a dyno run before and after.

do you mean that they will ask which application before they ship??? I would never ever buy something from ebay that I wasn't 100% sure was for my bike.
Sorry but that post was assnine stupid James

eh. boyesens's part number for the power reeds that fit the KDX are #607. They fit a few other machines as well, so this is what James was trying to point out. As long as the boyesen part number is #607, they are the correct reeds for 89-06 KDX.

With a pipe and intake mods this is all the scary fast stuff you need.

Good info.. the 607's are cheap.

Can you get just the reed valves and bolt them in with everything else stock? Or do you need different stops to get the benefits of the new reeds?

And do they last as long as the stock reeds? The ones in my new to me 95 look perfect (no idea if they were original or have been replaced).

They'll last longer than stock. The stock ones might look fine, but they're probably worn out. Yes, they bolt into the stock reed cage without the stops. They do not need reed stops.

Carbon fiber reeds do not last longer than fiberglass, they are more responsive though. When the fiberglass wear out from neglect, it runs crappy. When the carbon fiber are neglected, they break and go into your motor$$$ And if you really want some response, get Firepower race fuel, not vp! For a 2 stroke, get the 537, ether boost, race kool, Xamax, and the O2 sensor. http://www.precisionautoresearch.com/RACING_CHEMISTRY/FirePower/FirePowerFuels.pdf . Dr Dave is a great guy, give him a call. His fuel is guaranteed to be the best, or he will buy it back. I believe him!

ive used the 607 reeds on my 220 and i can truthfully say they made a worthwhile difference. good bang for buck IMHO.
as far as the RB carb mods and the powernow type "blades" go, they are not designed to produce more peak power. rather to give better low and midrange power/response by speeding up the airflow through the carb at lower throttle openings. there are plenty of people on here that have done such mods with good results. sure there are some people that didnt notice any difference. but as Foxforks points out, any mods like these (including the reeds) are just a waste of time if you dont get the jetting right once its all done.
