As you can imagine the crossover will allow the shims above it to bend away from the piston face a lot more before they come in contact with the shims below the crossover which will let more oil flow therfore making it softer. The reason it is softer thru the whole stroke is because you have now already used up part of your valving resistance and your crossover has allowed your forks to build up more speed/momentem than your remaining shim stack may be able to handle. I sometimes like to place a shim stack on a valve and then hold it up to the light . This sometimes gives you an insight into how that stack may work compared to your previous stack. [/QUOTE]
