I had a separated shoulder. (in generic terms) I had stretched the ligements that hold the colar bone in place. After a trip to the Ortho Doc, and a couple weeks in a sling, he had me doing PT with a big rubber band for resistance. 6 weeks off bike, but no surgery for me.
Bottom line is you need it looked at by a doc to find out whats up with yours and your options.
Good luck
I'm 3 months post op. This is what the head man a John Hopkins had to say. It's not just the muscle sheath but the cartilage that forms the socket that gets damaged. Everytime you dislocate it gets worse. I was shocked to find out how many parts are in there. They rebuilt all sorts of things I didn't know were damaged, and didn't show on the MRI. For me it came down to 2-3 months of discomfort, or a life time of POP! Ouch! Not again! The doctors skill and your present fitness level has a tremendous effect on recovery so it was fairly easy for me even at 40.
