shortening shock, how to compensate forks for balance

Hi, I am having my shock shortened. I am not certain if that involves cutting the shaft or some other mod, but I will end up with the bike nearly an inch shorter in the rear.

I am also considering having my forks valved and resprung. What is the absolute best way to keep the bike balanced front to rear after lowering the back end so much?

Just in case the absolute best way is unaffordable to me what might be a good second choice?

Thanks for any info.

shorter stiffer springs, no cutting needed
the travel will be the same oil level the same -
you still have the bottom out bumper on?

Thanks for the reply. I have not taken any parts off of the forks and they are brand new. I am pretty sure the bumpers if the forks came with them, are still there.

I am sending my forks for work. Can I just request shorter springs? If I do should the springs be equaly shorter compared to the originals as the amount of distance the shock is shorter?

What I am trying to ask is if the shock is shortened half an inch do I get fork springs that are half an inch shorter than stock?

thanks

If you shorten the shock stroke 1/2", the rear of the bike is going to be lowered more because of the linkage. depending on the ratio of the linkage, it could be quite a bit more. If you end up only lowering the rear 1/2", nothing needs to be done to the forks internally. Just slide the forks up in the triple clamps about 3/8"-1/2" and ride.
