Smack talking & the Toronto Leafs

Guys I am so excited the Hurricanes have made it to the third round, and again have purchased my play-off tickets for the third time this year. But what gets me is this wanabe Toronto Sports Writer, Dave Perkins calling us Opie’s :eek: , and talking smack about getting a haircut after the game from Floyd the barber :think: . Mr. Perkins, prepare for more than a haircut! :p I admire the play of the Maple Leafs and welcome them to our town, but make no mistake, Carolina is not going to lay down. Irbe is awesome, period, and the Canes are at full strength. If we still had Roberts, the Leafs would not even be in the playoffs. So, come on down to Tobacco Row and be prepared to get smoked. :moon:

I hate Toronto.
I have to, I'm near Vancouver so it's a tradition..
But I hope they win the damn cup, because we can't and all of the other Canadian teams are out.

Yeah, you have to be reasonable, if the Wings dispose of the Avs, it will be a good final but you gotta think its all Red, as in red wings.
I like Detroits team, and I know they shelled out the money like the Yankees do to win a championship, but MAN, that team is stacked with such awesome Hockey players..... :o

As a die hard leafs fan here's my take,

Carolina can't be underestimated. They beat the Devils. Something we haven't been able to do in 3 years. It will be a tough series, but I have to go with the home town boys.

As for the Avs and Wings, let them get a good hate on and kick each other's butts for 7 games.

I like the Leaf's chances with either of them in the finals. Look at the trouble the Avs had with the Kings. The Wings were having fits with Vancouver.

I think the only part of the game which will tip the scales will be if Dom or Roy steal the series.

Wings fans, don't count your chickens just yet, I seem to remember another team in the playoffs, oh yeah the defending Stanley Cup champs! Go Avs, and good luck to all except the Wings. ( sorry still hate 'em but then I can't stand the Yankees either.) :p

Anyone forget the 92-93 series when Toronto beat Detroit in game 7? Nikilai Borchevski, from Todd Gill, overtime? hehe that was awesome!! Detroit was the team that year. I'll still be whining about the high stick from the great one, as Toronto would have destroyed Montreal in the final. Carolina doesn't have half the talent Ottawa had, I'm really surprised Toronto pulled it out against Ottawa. I love the Leafs to death, but Ottawa was the better team. Mogilny has finally come to life, hopefully Sundin can get back for maybe game 5. I got a good feeling about Toronto being in the final.

I thought for sure hte Leafs were going to pull it out in OT. Carolina really wanted that game and you could tell in OT. Gary Roberts is a machine, he is out playing everyone. Talk about heart, don't count out Tucker, Corson, Domi, McCabe, they get the boys all pumped up. Congrats to the Canes for the OT win, they deserved it. Now we'll see how they do on the road :p

Whoo Hoo! Canes pulled another win in OT! 3rd round... was very exciting!!

The canes played much better than the leafs... espically in the last 2 minutes leading up to scoring. They got off shot after shot after shot, and one finally went in.

The Ref's sucked. Even the announcers on ESPN were shocked at some of the things that they didnt call. One leaf was hanging on oneal for at least 10 seconds... he was basically hugging him. If thats not holding i dont know what is :think:
The canes are the NHL's worst nightmare. We are such a small franchise. No one in L.A. or anywhere else but here gives a crap about us, and what we're doing. But we've got some great fans. The announcer for the canadian brodcast of the game said that the arena of round 2 was the loudest arena he had ever been in. (I was there and can testify to that!!)

Irbe is the greatest!! he dosent really speak good english though. B-4 the game some guy asked him what his strategey was. He said "Make like wall and keep puck away"... He did his job well!!

GO CANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dell, ya beat me to the thread! What a great game. Did you see Irbe get caught up in the back side of his own net? What a Homer, but he is awesome! A win in game four would just shut themouth of every critic. I have great seats for #5 and just cant wait. Who was looking over the Canes to the Avs or Wings?? Be careful, you may not get what you wish for!

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched. Canes played great, the reffing sucked on both sides. I bet this series goes to 7.

Hopefully tonight's game is better than Tuesday's. Not talking about the outcome, I wanna see bodies flying around!!! The last game almost put me to sleep.

That game was a sleeper. The Leafs looked like they were in a daze. Hopefully they can put Quinn out of their heads for a couple of hours, and play the same type of hockey they did in Game 6&7 against the Sens.

I hate the trap. I can bet the 'canes fans like that type of hockey just fine.

It was the most frustrating style of hockey to watch. So much for making rule changes which create more offense. That trap style is offensive!

That first goal is critical. But we couldn't even score on the power plays.

It's funny, the previous game, there were no penalties late in the game. But in this one, the 'canes were getting called for marginal stuff, and we get called for a two man advantage with 3 minutes to play????? WTF???

3 games in a row is a steep climb. It was good to see Quinn behind the bench.

Woo hoo!!! Man what a game. To bad the refs were smoking crack in the 2nd period. 5 straight penalties? sheesh. Ah well it looks like it goes back to Toronto for game 6. Congrats to Joseph, best performance of the series...

that was awful, the leafs came to play, that is for sure. I have never seen so much blue in ESA since State played Duke. That first (only) goal took the wind out of the Canes and the crowd. Joseph did an outstanding job, I was sitting about 30 feet from the ice to his left for the first and third and could not believe the stuff he was stopping. What is the deal with Roberts? the guy needs to get over is seperation anxiety, what an a$$. Good luck Huck, hey can you believe the Av's what's up there.

I thought for sure that Detroit was going to blow Colorado away. I wanna see if go 7. Cole and Roberts have been battling it out since game 1, great match up. I wanna see Van Hellemen back on the ice, get Frasier out of there, he did a piss poor job. I'm glad he put the whistle away for the 3rd period. I think after 5 powerplays without a goal, the Canes just ran out of steam. Game 6 is going to be a mind blower..
