Source for aftermarket swingarm chain guard?

The swingarm chain guard on my 90 kdx is worn into two pieces at the front of the swingarm. The Kawasaki part is $27 on ron ayers site. That seems kind of high for a rubber strip with 4 bolt holes.

Are there any aftermarket choices? Tips to repair the current one?

funny , I'm in the same situation currently. I need the chain guard and chain guide for my YZ.
cheapest I've found them for online is around $60 for OEM (pays for both parts) but I too am like what the @%#$ !!
its just a piece of plastic.

1191user,for the KDx you might want to try MSR and White Bros for the front chain slider(thing on the swingarm) and Fredette or White Bros for a chain guide(thing at the back sprocket) They all list them for this bike.Rocky Mountain and White Bros sites.$27 seems about right.
Speeed you have a wider selection to chose from UFO,White Bros. and T.M. designs.there could even be more, the yzs have alot more aftermaket stuff available for them, these are the only catalogs I have at home.
You can make your own chain guide blocks if you have access to a plastic shop just take the old block with you and they should be able to cut you a piece of teflon stock to match.I have even heard of a piece of hard wood being used as well,oak or black walnut,yes it does work. ;) Might also be able to make the swingarm chain slider out of a piece of flat stock if its cheap enough,Just heat it up and bend a piece around the front of swingarm and attach with the oem screws.

I dont think a tire would work, tho it would be nice if it did , but i do belive the guides are made of a nylon material , not plastic , so they will last more than 1 ride , and have a non-resistant surface to the chain.

I made mine also. The top is made from a white plastic called UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) and the bottom is a black material called Delrin. I was curious which would last longer, but after almost a year they are about the same. Both materials can be purchased from McMaster Carr online for a very reasonable price. I can post a couple of pictures if anyone would like to see them.

Guys the simple and cheap solution is go to a shoe repair shop and buy a piece of new (or used) synthetic sole material (probably neoprene) of the correct thickness. Use the old one as a pattern and trim it out with sharp knives and wood sanding techniques. I put one on a previous KDX and it lasted for years and was still on it when I sold it. Cheers John

Chain Slider

I made one wonce out of a tire! Used the sidewall of an old bias ply cut to shape and wrapped around swingarm so it covered both top and bottom.Never replaced it! :ride:

I made one out of a timing belt. I made a couple of spares but have not had to replace the first one.
Question: Does anybody know how or where to get or make a lower chain guide?

UMHW rules. We used to run chains over when I built food coveyors. Doesn't wear and super slippery. I used to make copers for my skateboards out of it. I would have to rough it up with a grinder to slow down the board.
