http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/, They know everything. What, checking the gap is hard to do? They get dropped, bumped, whatever. It takes a couple of seconds at best.
If I am out on a ride and foul a plug I take out the spare, make sure it has some gap and install it. Can't do much else as I don't carry feeler gauges in the tool bag.
If I am doing routine maintenance I check the gap on the plug before installing. Very, very rare that I need to adjust it, but like previously said there is always the possibility that you got a plug that was dropped before it was put in the box.
