I was wondering if anyone will be attending the fun run put on by the ATV club? I just got back into dirtbiking last year, and I only made it out twice. So I figure a Poker run put on by the ATV club would be a good place to shake the rust off(wider trails ect) anyways if anyone is going , or has any input, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks Canook

Following quads uphill is not much fun. All the places where you'll need momentum to get you through they'll slow down to a crawl - or stop- right in front of you. This will invaribly happen when you're on a narrow ridge in between a couple deep ruts, at the apex of one of Capitol's many concrete block strewn switchbacks or picking your way down through a root or rock garden. 4/4 is the Wet Duck enduro @ Tahuya, but the 2 track trails should be open, especially with the herds heading south for the weekend.

Do the Spring Fling.! My advice is to get there early and get into the bike flight that leaves early. Get out before the quads and you'll be ok. If you wander onto the enduro course at Tahuya you may not have much fun. Some guys are fairly serious about staying on their minute. Last year a bunch of kids were upset that the enduro guys were yelling at them to move over on a section of single track that was part of the course. They had found the arrows and though it would be fun to follow them. The mountain bikers that were going the wrong way had much less fun. Couldn't see anything but the whites of their eyes.

The spring fling is a nice event. My first poker run. The trails are wide but this time of year they are covered with the gooiest slimiest clay you will ever see. Be sure to have a fairly new set of tires to help with traction and be sure to leave before the quads but after the speed demons.

Look out for the wooden bridges. People have been known to fall off of them when their tires are packed with slime.

The enduro is where I'll be.

If you haven't found it, the calendar is at

http://www.nmaoffroad.org/eventcalendarup.shtml

This weekend is the sparkplug, next is easter, next is the desert 100, and next is the scottish trials, and next is the shelton valley enduro. That gets you through may with no Sundays open. This is the best time of the year to have a bike.

A note on the desert 100, I just ride the ironman poker run. A no stress oppurtunity to ride in some very alien terrain for 80+ miles.

I'm about 80% sure we will go to saturdays poker run.(it kinda depends on Tory's shoulder recovery),but went on it last year and it was fun,if you leave after the hot shoes and before the quads the trails are fine.On the way back towards the stagging area it is very slick so you have to be careful.Food for thought though is this is put on buy quad enthuisest and we bike riders are the odd balls so be patient and courteous.

Had a blast at the fun run, and I couldn't have asked for a better day. I felt the trails were in excellent shape. I did the 35 mile long run and really enjoyed myself. I can't wait to do another poker run. I'ts good for me as I am just getting back into riding and find it's a good way to meet people and learn new areas

Poker runs are great for the folks just getting into it.

You get a guided tour, support crew if you break down or get hurt, chances to win stuff, and the little money you spend at entry(cheapest of all events) goes to the club to be reinvested into the trail system.

Everybody wins. The bummer is when you start getting fast and want to go faster but the several hundred people are in front of you. Then look at enduros to supplement the poker runs.
