Bummer about AIC lead singer Layne Staley dieing recently...even though he did it to himself I still feel bad about it. The sad thing about it was that he was dead for 2 weeks before anyone noticed, jezzz.

Yeah very sad to see talent go to waste. The power of the drug was too much for him to handle himself. He really said it in "Down in a hole". :ugg:

Thanks milque. What a shame. I'll see if i can dig up Man In The Box so I can play "Rooster" in his honor.

That's weird about Lopes. Seven people in the car, but she was the only fatality.

Oops, I said "plane crash" but I meant to type car crash obviously. Maybe I was thinking of Aaliyah? Yeah, very strange that she was the only one seriously injured. What's a girl with her kind of money doing sharing a car with 7 other people anyway?

Must be a Carribean thing. Aaliyah died because her plane was overloaded. :silly:

Heard that Linda Lovelace also died from injuries suffered in a auto accident.

That sucks.

Drugs do kill, I'm still getting over Joey Ramone passing. Saw a cool interview with Jonny Ramone and Rob Zombie on VH1, Jonny looks the same and rocks on.

The part that really sucks is that I'm old enough to catch that.

Amazing that this didn't make bigger headlines. I found out by accident yesterday. "Facelift" changed metal and Layne had THE greatest voice in rock at that time.

AIC is one of those rare bands that never made a bad record. What a shame.

try listening to a.i.c. dirt somtime when your alone in a dimmly lit enviroment . it will get your mind going. i was doing a plumbing job at an old senior complex, it was late in the evening and no one was there so i cranked up dirt on my blaster. there are lots of moans and screams and wierd sounds in general that you dont really notice, but thinking back now that must of been what he was going through . it definetly gave me the chills. man in the box was one of the first songs that my band coverd and it has changed my musical style. he was unique.

I agree, Dirt is one of my all-time fav albums...not a bad song on there & many of those received radio play throughout the years. AIC definetly has a unique style, very dark & methodical.

Truly sad. AIC is one of my favorites and I had always hoped Layne could straighten up and get out on tour again.

I light of this, if any of you out there have a friend or family member that is fighting an addiction, don't shut them out or ignore them. Check in on them on a regular basis. Please. You may get them to stop, but you may save them from a life ending overdose. Narcotics, booze, whatever. Who knows how this would have turned out if someone had found him before he actually was dead. Instead, he lay there for two weeks.

I speak from experience. I lost a grandmother, my best friend and a cousin to overdoses. None of the bodies were discovered in less than a week. I had given up on my best friend, because he was constantly wasted and just sat in the living room in the dark. I still feel I could have saved him. It's not a good feeling.

RIP Layne

being in the music buiness,i can hear what your saying, although i have not experienced what you have. i see friends that seem to allways be declining health wise and mentally. you cant blame your self for thier self destruction because to me, the more you try to help them clean up, the further away they get.an individual is in charge of thier own path and when drugs are involved thats the only thing that matters. you just have to pray that they hit the bottom and realize what they are doing before its to late. they need support more than a babysitter. dont beat yourself up over your friend. he probably wouldnt want you to.

I'll be sad for a while - look at my nicname

Obviously I liked AIC, just look at my nickname here which I've used for the past 5 years on a lot of sites, Staley (in honor of Layne) and 8 (which nobody cares about but it is my favorite number). I just don't want everyone to think that I took this name after he died, I've had it for a long time. It's too bad about Layne. He was a lost soul and a depressed person who just couldn't kick the drug habit, and it eventually got him. He will be missed. I'll be playing through my collection of AIC albums (I think I have 6 studio albums) if anyone wants to join me.

ZOOK - you are so right, I know that he wouldn't want me to beat myself up. I don't really, it's just this feeling I get when I am reminded of him. What if I had stopped by that fateful day? OK, so maybe I do beat myself up, but I know now what I have to do for another friend who is in trouble. We have a pact. It may not be fool proof, but it's a start..........

Ya...LS will be missed. As well as AIC I really dug his work with Mad Season...if any of you AIC fans don't have that album...Go Get It! Pearl Jam is the only remaining "complete" band left from the "Big Four" of Seattle Sound. Nirvana...well, we all know what happened. Soundgarden...broken up (although I look forward to hearing Chris Cornells work with former RATM members...Tom Morello is a STUD!!!). And now this...bummer.

How come when a celebrity commits suicide it`s tragic, but when some Joe Blow does it ,it`s considered a stupid thing to do? I only have sympathy for their families, but absolutley none for them. Call me what you want, but they were the ones who offed themselves.

I'm not trying to start any type of flame here. That's my disclaimer.

Unless you have been there, please don't make judgements about it.

I have been there. I have seen it and lived it, up close and personal, and still see it in another friend. It scares the hell out of me.

Is it a choice? Yes, it is. I will never dispute that fact. Very seldom does anyone force you to make that first mistake. Is the addiction real? Oh, yes, it is, beyond your imagination. Can a person be helped? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. That all lies within the individual.

I live to see yet another day, I am fortunate.
