I have an '01 GasGas 300 [2 stroke]. Recently when I give it a quick turn the engine bogs down. If I let off the throttle it recovers. Right now I have to ride it with high rpms and roll the throttle gently or it will bog/stall i.e. totally cut out!


I removed the power valve cover and everything looks fairly clean in there, but I am not sure what I am looking for in the power valve. What should I look for? Do I need to take off more than the small cover to completely checkout where the bar goes down into the case?

What else could be causing the stall? Clogged main jet? Slow air flow? Clogged air holes?

Any direction or ideas would be appreciated! Only owned a bike for 1 1 /2 years....but have quite a bit of experience on vehicles and power equipment through the years.

Your problem sounds like a fuel starvation issue. Check all the usual fuel related things ie: remove carb, strip and clean. Check air filter is clean, and change spark plug.

It probally is the carb, but if not you could try replacing your rings. That happened to me and it took me like 2 months dinking with the carb and a put new rings in and it worked just fine.

What does your spark plug look like? If its black, try a smaller size main jet. If it's whitish, go larger on the main. I would rejet before doing a top end.

Rejet after the new top end is broken in, and you have made sure your reeds are in good condition, and your silencer packing is fresh. You don't want to jet the bike to run best with worn out parts.

I am thinking clogged pilot jet, or possibly your float height is off.

I forgot to post here that I got her fixed in time for my race two weeks ago. I tore the carb off and apart. Cleaned every part in there till it shined. Actually it was pretty clean to start with. I also cleaned the air filter and did away with the super tacky filter oil. I think some got sucked into the carb as I srayed both sides of the filter.

Live and learn I guess. She seems to be running great now and idles like a charm also. Thanks for the ideas. I was hoping not to have to crack the motor and i didn't have to this time.
