Got teh new bike! :yeehaw:

Had a bit of time before dark and took it to a field near me to break it in. Was riding in second gear, not fast, but not lugging it either. After about five minutes I either ran it out of gas ( doh!) or fouled the plug. It still had a bit of gas in the tank I could see. My dealer shipped it with a little in it after he made sure it was running etc.

Couldnt get a spark plug because it was too late and no dealer near me had one etc.

Anyway, it wont start ( I put gas in it... LOL!)

What u think, fouled plug after five minutes riding or ....?

Thanks! I imagine I mite not get much real time help and since I am still kicking it it mite start etc, but at least while I rest I can check the boards. :thumb:

probably a fouled plug. Pull it out and see if it is wwet and black.
just a side note......running out of gas on a stroke stroke can cause damage.

I pulled the plug and it's firing fine. Also, its getting gas. And... no one around me has the plug today. I was going to replace it just in case but looks like I am going to have to travel to find one.

Thanks for the reply MXSparx. I had no idea running out of gas could hurt! Will be much more careful on that!

Sure enough it was the plug. Even with the fire the fouling messed it up. Put a new one in, tuned the carberator a bit and went riding :)

Yeah, its expected that the first plug fouls.. I know that my dealer put in a 20:1 mix when they gave me the bike (they say that this helps lubricate the moving parts better on a new bike) which is a lot of oil for a mixture, so it will foul the plug. The combination of that, and the fact that in the bike break in period, you are not supposed to be getting on the throttle hard.

Just wondering, what kind of adjustments did you do to the carb? I am personally having some terrible spark plug fouling problems with my 03 KX 125. I plan to jet soon so I am looking for a good starting point.

The 03 comes with a very rich pilot-i went as low as a 30 with the AS at 1 turn.A 35 with AS 1.5 is better.

Main i went to a 400.

Marcus,
Maybe you might know something about my 02 KX's carb. I went down a size or two depending on the weather on the main. The bike runs great overall. But I never completely got rid of the spooge coming of the pipe. I was thinking I should try a smaller pilot. What do you think? Thanks!!

Tiylu,

I did not do the work on the carb as my note implied. I took it to Yamaha of Texas here in Fort Worth. Dwayne who works there (and is a dirt-bike guy) did it. I was afraid I had a real problem perhaps and wanted to catch it quick if so. I should have explained a bit better perhaps but dint think it was important. My real problem was not being able to find the correct plug! Somehow he pulled one out of a hat for me ;) But I am still glad I took it there and got a pro to look at it. Ran like a champ after he fixed it. I took it to Mosier Valley (just in case you have heard of it) and broke it in nice and easy today.

Yamaha of Texas is very close to me, and a Kawi place is further. Figured if Yamaha said I had a real problem I would take it to Kawi. Worked out like I hoped.

Hope you get the carb problem worked out soon.

KX 02 i have no experince of the 02 but the pilot is a good place to start working on spooge problems.I go a good few sizes down until i get it to bog badly when i open the throttle-then i go up again till the bog goes. Now i ride it and adjust the needle clip for the best feel when rolling the throttle on and off at medium revs.

Generally you can go one stage leaner on the needle clip than std.
