I bought a '92 cr 250 a couple months ago and just fried the big end rod bearing. I think I'm going to split the cases, wich I've never done before, and I have come across my first hurdle. It has a steahly flywheel weight and I dont know how to get it off. Here is a picture to clarify.

So, what the heck is holding it on? Can I just build a removal tool or can I buy one from a honda dealer? Any help would be appreceated.

geir54,
Assuming it's like the one I have, around the outside of the FFW will be small holes with allen heads in them. The allens are quite small. Loosen them first, then remove the weight.

Good Luck,
Scott

You need the "special tool". It is a metal plate that fits onto the weight. It fits on with two bolts and then allows you to use a 1/2in. drive socket wrench to take off the weight. When you re install the weight make sure to torque it down to what the flywheel nut would normally be. On my KX250 I torqued it down to 42 foot pounds.

If you need a photo of the special tool email me and I will get some for you.
