What's a good rule of thumb for when you need to replace your steel clutch plates? The guy at the yammie shop said something like when they start turnin blue. Any thoughts? Suggestions?
dont let them turn blue, they are heat warped at that time. I am putting a clutch in my cr right now, and they plates are blue, and are classified as "fried" I get a pic up in a few days.
They will glaze up (brown) under normal use & they will be fine if they haven’t warped or coned.
Scuff them up on smooth concrete to remove glazing. Clean.
Sadly they probably ARE warped or coned. Need to be checked carefully on a flat surface with a feeler gauge (or ‘rock’ them if they are real bad) & check inside-outside as well.
