I am going to put a new clutch in my 2000 YZ250, this winter, and was going to get steel clutch plates. How much heavier are they going to be and will they negate the need for the flywheel weight I was considering? At the very least should I do the clutch first and see if I still want the flywheel weight after?

The steel plates will add some weight, but not so much that it would necessarily negate the need or effect of a flywheel weight. The main advantage of steel plates over aluminum is the decreased contamination of the clutch fluid. Try the steel plates and see how it feels. I put an 11 oz weight on my 98 yz250 and really like it in the trails and trees.
