steering stem bent?

i ran into a clay bank on the CR which has caused a tight spot in the steering , i backed of the stem nuts a fraction and it felt fine, but after a couple of rides the tight spot has come back again. Anyone had this problem?

Check to make sure you don't have any problems with the bearings. You didn't mention how old the bike is and if the stearing assembly has ever been lubed. Hitting the clay bank could have been the straw that broke the camel's back. Good luck.
