Well, I just found out that my latest biking injury is really a doozey.  While riding my KTM 380 about a month ago I made the (stupid) mistake of trying to free my stuck throttle cable...whilst I was riding...in a very rocky area.  It seems when I put the bike back together from measuring my top end, I did not route the dang thing properly so it was sticking while riding and starting to rev quite high.  Instead of stopping to fix it like I should have, I tried to adjust it while moving cuz I didn't want to hold up the guys I was riding with.

Well, I was in 2nd Gear (Satan's Gear as I like to call it on that bike) and that is where all the power is...I gave it a nudge and she pulled loose and opened the throttle wide open.  I got bucked off that thing like a cowboy on bull.  I think I went flying 15 or so feet and I am 250+ so when I landed on some large rocks...it was not a good thing.

I knew right away I was hurt pretty bad...I had a terrible charlie horse in my thigh and I couldn't move my left arm.  Turned out I completely dislocated the arm and bruised the quadripceps in my leg.  Both got pretty swollen and I could not walk much for a week but the leg got better...the shoulder did not.  I can't lift it above my head to save my life and it constantly feels like it is gonna pop out again.

So, I've been seeing a specialist and had the MRI.  Turns out I ripped the rotator cuff and ripped the cartilage around the socket which holds the arm in the socket.  They can't tell for sure, but I may have a ripped tendon as well.  Go for surgery December 2nd, right after Thanksgiving!!  They are going to try the arthroscopic way but if it is too bad, they will just open it up.  Depending on the outcome, I am out of the riding game for 2-4 months.

The part that really stinks is after I had the accident, I got rid of Beelzebub  :p and got me a nice 400 with the magic button.  Fits me like a glove.  I've ridden it a couple of times and I absolutely love it but I have to let her sit for quite awhile.

Oh well, I guess I'll be spending more time on here for awhile.

Good luck with the surgery I had a very similar operation on my left shoulder a few years ago and it was worth the pain in the end. I can now lift that arm painfree which even before I shredded the Rotatorcuff I couldn't do.
Maybe we can keep each other company since I have surgery scheduled for the next morning

I should have had one rebuilt and didn't.  It hurts aftr a lot of riding or swinging a hammer etc.

My daughter had one rebuilt and I agree with oldguy, you will be glad you did.  Kristen has never regretted it.

Tony

I'll still be here ... Although I will finally be off crutches.

I hate to scare you Chris but I wanted to warn you about your surgery. I had the same surgery 5 weeks ago today, and I was told 3 to 4 months also, after surgery they had to do a SLAP and a BANKHART, 2 very bad things. Moral of the story is now I am out for 6 to 10 months and pyhsical therapy for at least 6 months. And the surgeon forgot to mention the cost, thank God I am Union and have great insurance, the grand total of surgery and MRI and other costs $30,000 plus P.T. I just got my portion of the bill today $770.00. Like I said Good luck Chris, believe me I know.

Oh boy, this is starting to sound like it could really suck.

6-10 monts Rich?  4-6 months Thump?  And here I am planning in my head to possibly hit Chadwick in February?

This sucks...

I suppose I will have my 400 running like a striped ape by then...  Looks like I may get a chance to do some of the silly stuff like polishing the swingarm; Powercoat on the frame, etc.

Good grief.

I'm now officially depressed.

And to think, the last chance I have to ride is tomorrow but I am recovering from Bronchitis and its only supposed to be like 50 tomorrow so I probably shouldn't go...  Maybe I'll do it anyway.

Chris - Whatever it is, listen to your Ortho and PT.  I crushed a foot in a construction accident 20 years ago and was on crutches or in a wooden shoe for 8 months.  Believe me, I went crazy then, but now I am glad as I hop around on that foot shile the other one heals.

I'll ask my daughter about her shoulder PT.

Well, I had the surgery yesterday afternoon and it was a success!  The cartilage that holds the arm in the socket that goes all the way around it (360 degrees), well 270 degrees of it were torn so I got some pins installed just for fun.

Doc told my wife (I was out cold) the tater cuff tear was small and he would have been able to fix it arthro only had it not been for the cartilage being torn so badly...:(  They had to open it all up so I think my recovery will be a bit lengthier than hoped for.

Anyway, typing slow with one hand...I'll update when Ifeel better and know more.

OLDGUY:  Good luck with your knee today!

Recovery is going pretty well.  I've been going to therapy now for about 3 weeks and its going pretty well.  I can't believe how much movement I already have back but the strength in the arm is terrible...hurts real bad if I even try.  I guess the biceps are connected to the labrum.

Anyway, how about you other guys?  Oldguy, how is your recovery going?  Thump, what was the decision?  Are they cutting or are you okay?  RichKX250, you made it back much sooner than you thought...only ten weeks???  Wow!  How did the ride go at Merwin on Sunday?

I wanna ride!!

Chris, glad tto hear you are progressing keep it up :thumb: Not sure how mine is going. I still have extensive swelling over the whole knee which limits motion. The Physical therapist says I am gaining some each day but there is no strength that I can feel. I have been walking some each day without crutches in the brace but it more resembles a Frankenstein shuffle. I have PMed Firecracker to get a feel for how far she was at this point. My wife says I overestimated my recovery and should just relax and wait it out
