Tomorrow is a huge turning point for me. I'm going in to have my port removed... (Port Catheter)

Since my oncologist is very superstitious, he's been denying my requests over the last couple years to have it removed. But during my last visit, he said it would be fine to remove it.

I guess he's finally convinced that I stand more than a 50/50 chance of surviving this thing.

As of today, I'm 4 years 5 months and 2 days out from my last treatment. Not bad considering they didn't think I'd make it a year and a half.

I don't consider myself "out of the woods" just yet though. I'm still very conscious of the fact that I could have a recurrence, and be right back at square one in very short order.

I've never won much in life, but this I can say with pride is a huge win. Everything from tomorrow on is gravy.

That is HUGE! Congratulations, Gary!

I have always been impressed that you did not let it keep you from enjoying life. Thank you for showing that life should be lived!

It took Cancer to wake me up. Until then I was always planning on getting around to living one day.

Now I'm selling both of my MX bikes so I can finance a flat track bike. So I can actually do some racing. Something I've always wanted to do, but was afraid to try. Never thinking I could actually be any good at it.

I proved to myself a few weeks ago that with the right bike I could definitely do well at it.

Pulling a holeshot on a 40 year old bike with a motor that's got a 30 year old clutch in it doesn't happen just for fun.. :whoa:

Now I need a real bike that I can depend on, and do some ass kickin.. ;)

I should get in bed.. They're gonna want to start cuttin at 10am.. :yikes:

By the time you read this you will probably be out of recovery and on your way to a new flat-track life!! But even if you never win a race, you're still a heck of a guy and that is what is really important. Best of luck will all endeavors, physical, emotional and otherwise!

Congrats on the 4+ years cancer free, and beating the odds. Hope everything goes smoothly today!!

Have fun with the flat tracking! I ran into an old MX friend Chelsi Dunkelbarger at Red Bud this year. She took up flat tracking after she healed from a really bad streetbike accident a while back. She's in the Indy area, so you might run into her at the races. She was a badass back in the day, finished 3rd at the Loretta Lynn's national in '00.

Thanks everyone, things went just fine. I'm home and 99% back to normal.

Yes Nikki, I know Chelsi.. As a matter of fact, if you have seen my race report from Frankfort 1/2 mile, that is her blasting by me on the start and at the end of the race..

She's quite good on a flat tracker. Just glad I don't ride in her class.

Just fine.. Stopped taking the drugs, and am almost over them.. Even though I was only on them a couple days, they grab hold...

The pain is pretty much gone.. Almost went riding today.. Thought better of it though.
