This is a review of suspension modification on my 02 CR250 done by Johnny Borders of ProAction in Tallassee, AL. His house and business are located at a track called Monster Mountain, there in Tallassee. I had it done two weeks ago and was going to post this earlier, but was apprehensive when I saw the big discussion in the Suspension forum about "ProAction vs. RaceTech." But this has nothing to do with that, so I decided to post it anyway. Leave me out of that argument. This is from an e-mail that I sent to someone, and because I'm lazy I just cut and pasted it to here. ;)
It cost $465. That included fork springs, Pro Action fork pistons, and valving front and rear. So, depending on what materials are needed, you may end up with a different cost.
We were able to use the stock rear spring.
I stayed there with him all day, where else are you going to go in Tallassee. He described what he was doing and why the whole way through and didn't mind me standing there looking over his shoulder.
We started out with stock springs F&R and PA pistons and valving F&R. It was pretty stiff but still plush throughout. I rode it a couple of times and he rode it a couple of times as well and agreed that there were some areas that could be improved for my ability. I rode his bike and liked it a lot, so we decided to go for that type of feel. So he put in softer springs in the forks and put the stock piston back in the shock (it flows oil a little differently than the PA, it looks wide open compared to the PA). It is plush, balanced, forgiving, and tuned to the way I ride.
BTW, while I was there I felt like I was one of the family. He offered me coffee, let me use his facilities, let me take a shower there because I had to rush off to Montgomery for a class later that day. He made the final adjustments while I was in class, then met me at a Texaco off I-85 so I wouldn't have to drive back to the track late at night (I usually don't get home from the class til 2AM). So that saved me 30-45 minutes of late night driving. Man, I just couldn't be happier with the bike or the experience. It's not often that you get customer service like that, anymore. Later.
