Heres a question, i just got this bike, and theres like maybe 15 hours or so of engine run on it, and the engine doesnt seem to be breaking in, and say


say i ride it right, then i let it rest for a while and do the same maybe like 5 times in 1 day, at the end the last ride it seems to get more power, and then the next day the bike is the exact same as it was when i first got it, the same power, not anymore or less

what im trying to say is how long should it really take for it to be able to use full throttle?

At 15 hrs its well run in. Hope you have changed the oil, cleaned the air filter, checked the spoke tension and checked for loose / missing bolts & nuts. Our race bikes often get run in in practice. Like 10 minutes!

The engine cant be allready broken in, it doesnt even go full throttle, does anyone here own a 2003 suzuki Drz 125/L Cause in the manual it says up to 5 hours of riding to change the oil and clean the air filter, change the oil filter and all that and i did allready, and it says to keep the throttle under 1/2 up to 10 hours, and under 3/4 over 15,

is there anyway to speed this proccess up ?

how come some bikes break in faster then others, or is it that my bike's just screwed ??

You can run full throttte.I have a modied 03 drz125l.When it was new I ran it easy for about 5 minutes and then let it cool down.I did that about 4 times and then ran it WFO.Ive got about 20 hours on it.My wife used to have an 84dr125 same motor .You cant hurt them.

It should easily run at full throttle as WFO said. There must be something wrong if it wont. You should be able to pin it in every gear and shift flat out. Will it do that?

umm, what exactly do you mean by pin it in every gear?

i know when im riding it it can easily shift into every gear, and when i hit 5th
it goes maybe half throttle and doesnt want to go any faster, and when it goes as fast as it can on half i let go of the throttle cause in the manual it says not to hold it at the same speed because the parts have to cool down and it helps it break in better, im not sure if its just me, but i try to make it go more then half, but it doesnt want to, meaning, if its allready at half, and i make it go more, its just revving without power

HMMM. Viper I think you have a problem with the bike. It is possible to ride along and be at a certtian speed then open the thriottle and it not go much faster but normally you do go faster esp if you are on the flat. I never run in bikes that much. Cant wait to gooooooo fast.

If you have a friend with a bike go for a ride together and swap. Then ask him what he thinks. If it isnt going flat out its probably a trip back to the dealer. There might be dirt in the carb of something out of place that is restricting it.

Basically a bike should ride along on the flat and you can open the throttle all the way, the bike goes faster, you get the next gear, more full throttle and soon you should be flying along in top gear until you run out of space :eek:

Do you have a friend with a bike or somebody in your family who has ridden before?

Yea, i got some freinds who ride and i asked them,and they said that maybe i still need to ride it more or something, i never had a brand new bike before, so i have no clue how to break them in, but is it safe to try and force it or what should i do, how do you break them in, the other guy here is basiclly telling me to force it or something, but doesnt that screw up the engine ?


Because when im going, and maybe half throttle, like i explained before, and if it goes over that, it gives very little power, and sounds like its over revving, like when you first start it or something, but thanks for all the help im getting here, this place is great :cool:

At 15 hours it's almost time for a rebuild!!
I think 1 to 1 1/2 hours is way more than plenty. I just do 3 or 4 heat cycles and then WFO.
I use to roadrace in the 250GP class and would only get about 100Km out of a set of pistons mind you thats a 2 stroke.
Just change the oil and hold it wide open. It's probably so full of carbon that It won't even go wide open
