Wouldn't it be great if there were such a thing, I mean the kind that they have at Disnies Land where it feels like your going through all the motions. You could take huge risks, hit huge triples, fly through the whoops at top speed, even go for a backflip ;) or two, and when you crash instead of sitting out for 8 weeks, you just dish out some more doe, and go get back in line. :thumb: Actually this would be perfect for when you are out for one of those 8 week stints!
The military has those flight simulators working pretty good, I wonder if they'd like to throw some of that technology into the DB sector. :moon: We already know that they are the ultimate assault vehicle! :p

BT,
It's not just Flight Sim's anymore, LOL, the Military has entire "Sim Net's" set up so Platoon size elements of Cav or Armor can work on engagement scenario's. The system is set up so that each crew is enclosed in a "vehicle" just like the Flight sims right down to the hydraulic movement from terrain and enemy fire. ;)

Can you imagine you and ten buddies head down to the local ammusement park and spend the day racing each other on your pick of any SX or MX track in the country with zero risk of injury, no chance of breaking down, no flats, but all the same excitement, and feeling of riding! I'd be like a 10 year old kid spending his whole allowance in the arcade! :aj:
The technology that todays military posseses would probably blow my mind Irish. :thumb:

:) Back in the day it was just the bragging rights having the top score on the screen. I don't think I could suffer the humiliation of a DNF against 9 of my buds and the round of Victory Pop's to be paid out by said DNF

Not only do they have cav and armor sims, they've also got the sims for the infantry. Basically it's a room with movie screens on the walls. Your rifle has a hose that blows compressed air onto the bolt so when you pull the trigger, the bolt recoils and "chambers" just like really firing. A laser leaves the end of the barrel and strikes the "movie screen" and will register a hit or miss on the main computer. When the scenario is over it tells you how many kills you made, how many misses, and basically how much ammo you used. You even have to reload (change magazines) in order to keep shooting. It's pretty cool. They got attachment points for pretty much any weapon: M16/14, M9 Beretta, 203 Grenade launcher, M249 SAW (squad auto. weapon), AT-4 (rocket launcher), and on up! It's a lot of fun -- and you don't have to get dirty or cold or blisters or tinitus or clean weapons afterward or......

Now, as far as the dirtbike sim, you know they could put an mx seat, handlebars, and footpegs on one of those mechanical rodeo bulls!!! It couldn't be too hard to rig the electronics up to the motion controller and sit you in front of or INSIDE one of those simulators and let you ride! How awesome!!!

That would be cool! I enjoyed taking a spin in the Cobra helicopter simulator while my dad was stationed over in Germany in 1985. It had a huge room with the terrain setup on a board that a small camera displayed on the cockpit window. While flying the chopper there was a spider on the board that showed up as being about 50' on the screen. I cant imagine what the sims are like now adays.

;) Man that's an old one alright! TJ if you ever get the chance don't pass up the chance to try out the Commanche sim, it is really awe inspiring.

The military services are really pouring R&D money into sim's these days because of the cost effectiveness and thae safety issues involved. When you stop to think of how much money it coasts just to feild one Battalion versus one realistic simulator that all units can use it's a well spent use of tax dollars.

I play motocross madness 2 at least every other day. It's great for when your stuck at home and you can't go riding. You can't get bored of it because theres always hundreds of SX and MX tracks to download online.

Last time I was at The Mall Of America in Minneapolis they had a NASCAR simulator. Something like 10 people hop into smaller scale replicas of a Nascar cockpit and head out for battle. It was a blast and I can only imagine how cool that would be translated into a SX simulator.

You would have to get some two stroke exhaust fragrance sprayed into the sim in order to capture the true essence of riding though.
I think the first place I'd like to ride would be Washougal, it looks like a pretty cool track!
