Allright I did my 70,000 mile fluid change and changed everything over to mobile 1 synthetic. pumpkins, t/c, amd now the tranny is using synthetic lube. I haven't been able to get enough data for mpg gains but the tranny fluid seemed to make an immediate difference.
I had the tranny flushed with regular fluid, 10 quarts, and then flushed/filled with another 10 quarts of mobile 1 at 5$ per quart. I was amazed at how dirty the old atf looked coming out after just 70,000 easy miles and two 5 quart fluid changes with the filters.
Shifts are smoother now. But the moral of the story is nomatter how clean it looks on the dipstick new atf is much cleaner and dropping the pan only changes 5 quarts or half.
I'll report on mileage improvements. The price difference for synthetics when compared to a monthly truck payment is minimal.
