Hi, I am new here and I have a 2 82 XR500R's. I know it's old and heavy, but it's nice. I just put a Wiseco 10:1 Forging in it and ported and polished the head. I broke it in with 10w30, but now I am running Castrol Syntec blend. My clutch is toast, the new piston has shown that, but I want to be sure that synthetic is ok before I run it with new clutch. As long as there is no friction modifiers like PTFE or such, it should be ok, just add extended oil protection right?
Thx for your help

It should be fine, but I would recommend avoiding any motor oils with friction modifiers such as "Energy Conserving" because they have shown that over time they glaze the clutch plates and cause them to slip. Most 5w30 and 10w30 car oil has this. If you are looking for a good synthetic a lot of people have had good success with Mobil 1 15-50.
The synthetic in of itself will not harm your clutch.
