Have any of you ever been on The Zone diet? My wife's doctor told her to go on this diet to help control her insulin production. I've decided to try the diet also for both my benefit and in support of her. I was just curious if anyone has had any good/bad experiences with this lifestyle change.
Thanks in advance.

I looked briefly at their website, and they seem to be pushing a high fat diet, rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (olive oil), omega-3, etc. (fish oil). This is an absolutely great idea. Go for it.

America is getting more obese because of the amount of carbs we consume to avoid fat. Carbs stimulate release of insulin. Insulin is a growth hormone that causes synthesis of fat from glucose and growth of fat cells. Fat intake suppresses insulin production, stimulates lipolysis, etc.

BTW, mediterranian diets (olive oil) and black tea have recently been shown to be endothelial stabilizers (prevent heart attacks and strokes).

Back a few years ago when I was heavy into body building I was on the "diabetics diet". Now I don't know much about diabeties, or why this diet was called this, but it is the most intense and productive diet I have ever seen.

Sugar is not allowed. This includes fruit, milk, most bread and potatoes.
What does this leave? Meat, rye bread(preferably pumpernikle), green vegetables, and sweet potatoes (there is actually a whole lot more, but for the sake of time).

On that diet I was a true machine. It is sure a shame the Marines won't allow me the funds to not eat at the chow hall .
