Their argument is logical, but as someone who likes to think he at least obliquely thinks like a scientist, there sure is a lot of vague language in there. Words like 'potential habitat', or 'potential historical site(s)' are obviously misleading and meaningless. Furthermore, there is no EVIDENCE in their position. You wanna say the lizard is in danger, PROVE it. Don't just talk about them diving into small holes, getting run over, trashing the vegetation, etc. Do at least a few year long epidemiologic study proving a correlation/relationship between offroad traffic and animal death. They don't even mention the 2 areas in Death Valley that had 'historical' habitation, or whether or not they were exposed to OHV's. Let's face it. A lot of these so-called intellectuals are trying to push their weight around simply because they think OHV'ers are rednecks and don't like them disturbing 'their' paradise. The other glaring ignorance on their part is going after a small riding area for 1 species, which A) don't ALL live there and B) they should feel free to manually remove them to the 45000 acre area of Glamis they shut down.
