Thor and Fox

I've been buying fox gear for a long time and i not long ago treated myself to the Carey Hart limited helmet (which is sweet)
I bought myself some thor gear for next season for a change and i just liked the style of it.
i've been comparing my fox gear with my thor kit and I will never buy fox stuff ever again.
the difference in quality is astounding.
Thor have put so much into the construction of all their kit i can't help but think it's gonna last forever.
My fox stuff always ends up falling apart after a few months and i guess i've always presumed that that was normal race wear and tear.

I am a Thor convert, this gear is truly awesome and looks the bussiness.

just thought i would share my opinions on this cause i can't help but feel that Fox now think that thier name alone will sell gear and that quality just isn't as important anymore.

Any thoughts?

I wore Fox gear (kit?) for a long time too. I agree, the Thor line has great quality. I have both Phase and Core pants that seem as though they'll last forever. And they are comfortable too.

Without consciously doing so, I find that most of my kit (it’s fun to use British expressions) is Thor. My Force knee guards and Aftershock chest protector have served me well. I don’t think Thor’s boots are up to Alpinestar standards, however, when new riders ask me about what gear to get, I always suggest Thor T-30’s.

I’m a Thor guy.

syko - which line of Fox gear did you used to have?

Most makers offer more than one product line, and there can be a huge difference between their low priced gear and the top of the line. For example, I've had the Fox 360 pants for awhile and they are much better built than the Fox 180.

i am going to pick up some left over 04 thor core gear when the 05 line comes out because you can pick it up really cheap, besides i like the 04 stuff better that the 05 stuff, i got the catalog in the mail the other day, that stuff is really ugly!

I currently have a set of Fox 360 vented pants purchased in early 2003. I only use them on those very hot or muddy days. But I have to say that they have held up very well, they have only 1 small tear on the knee after all of the riding and falls they have taken. But I did however replace them with Thor gear this summer and I like the quality and style of the gear. The way I see it Fox has been in a rut for about the last 3 or so years, they need to update their line of gear.
If I knew Shift was going to release a new line of gear this summer, I probably would not have bought the Thor gear, from what I've seen at the shops the Shift stuff is pretty good as well.

I've only ever bought the Fox's top line stuff and although I wouldn't say it was bad (can't be cause i've been buying it for nearly 5 years) it just does not compare to the thor stuff.
it's just little things.
take a look at the stitching on the seams of the thor and fox jerseys. thor stuff is double stitched, fox stuff is just single stitching (thanks to my wonderful GF for that info) i know it's only a small detail but MX kit has to take a hell of a pounding and you would expect high quality from top to bottom, something i just don't think Fox give you anymore.

I would agree about the boots though, nobody does boots like alpinestars. thats what they are in the bussiness of making so they are always gonna make the best.

If you like Thor gear you will love moose gear. I tried fox gear once and after one race the pants came apart at the seams, so I sent them back to fox for replacement, after two months got the same ones back and they just sewn then back. After a couple of races they they started falling apart at the seams again, just threw them away. that was about nine years ago. never went back to FOX again. And NEVER will.

Over the years, I've tried alot of different gear. The only ones that hold up well for me are Moose XCR and Pro Grip. Alot of companies like Fox don't even make their own products, someone else makes it for them. And I never run any boots besides Sidi or Alpinestars. Everyone will have their own opinion but I agree that Fox has really went down hill lately.

Most of my families gear is Thor. Alot of us in my area feel fox has sold the sport out, hence no more fox for us.
