I am considering one of the small CO2 cartridge gadgets to carry on the trail for tire servicing. Has anyone had good luck with these compared to carrying an actual hand pump. I have seen several that utilize 12g cartridges (that can be easily purchased from any Wal-Mart). How many of these 12g cartridges would it take to fill a standard front or rear tube on a full size bike?

Most motorcycle tires require between 1 to 1 1/2 16 gram cartridges. I have a one that is called Second Wind and it doubles as a pumps as well. Very handy!

I typically use extra HD tubes with slime and then carry a handful of zip ties. If for some reason I get a flat I can use the zie ties to cinch the tire to the rim and make it back to the trailer / home base. Does it work? Well I've had to do it to my bike once and it worked great, I've done it to less prepared folks bikes and it seemed to work great for them as well.
