OK, I step up and ask if anyone else is going to the TWE? I hope to complete this enduro without looking like I rode it on a bicycle:confused:

After having done the Cow Bell last Saturday, and the soreness having worn off. I ready to do another ride :p

My whole crew is going (wife, son and daughter) and I talked 2 of my neighbors and their sons into participating. They are on line 46, so there will be a bunch of riders, although the resceduling of the 49er on the same day will impact the final number.

Should be fun!

I'm 1B and my son is 1C, we have DRN stickers on the bikes, be sure to say hi before, after or when you pass us!

Line 46, wow this may be bigger than a regular enduro. I'm post entering.

Les,

100,000mg of Motrin :scream: That must be one big pill.

We're There!

We are also planning on riding the event (although, we are both recovering from colds/bronchitis). We'll be getting there late Sat. and are riding on minute 28. My poor husband once again will be sacrificing his
day of riding to babysit me...I guess that's what loyal husbands are supposed to do!
Are there any other women out there who are planning on riding the event? (just thought I'd size up my competition ;) )

See you there!

My wife and daughter are riding on row 20. They are planning on riding to the 1/2 point as this is their first "real race". We ride at Forest Hill all the time and they want to ride within their limits.

It might rain Saturday night or Sunday afternoon, it will be chilly early in the morning... could be fun!!!

LocoCD,

I am glad that there will be other women there! I can't wait! How old is
your daughter? I can't wait until our son is old enough to ride in his first
"family enduro"! (He just turned 7 months...he still has some time before
we can get him on a bike).

We'll see you at the event!

LocoCD , Karna,

You may want to repack your mufflers, for this event. If the USFS is out there with their sound meters, better safe than sorry. :(

The USFS was at the Cow Bell. A few riders failed the test 101 dB. They weren't allowed on the course unless they got their dB numbers lower.

As an example, a XR 400 with an open stock Honda muffler = 98 dB.
My bike has a Vortip outlet on the end of a stock muffler = 93.8 dB.

See you there.

I read the warning on the CERA web site about sound testing. I am running the 650 with stock exhaust and competition tip, quite a bit quieter than the Pro Circuit T-4 I have. If there are any problems (I do not think there will be) I can switch the tip in 5 minutes. Our TTRs have aftermarket pipes but they are not too loud.

I do have a friend riding an XR 400 with a WB e-series pipe, it is almost obnoxiously loud on the hills, I'm going to suggest he pull off a couple of the rings.

With the altitude, any last minute exhaust changes could really impact jetting and performance. You are right, better to be prepared than sorry.

Karna - my daughter just turned 15, she really likes riding and it just happens to be a cool thing in high school. We are very happy that she is so engaged in the sport with us.

Thumbs,

No, the Training Wheels enduro is put on by the CERA club. It is being held
in N.CA, just west of Lake Tahoe.

Maybe rain, maybe snow :scream: . The weather guessers are now saying take your tire chains. :ugg:

Jim (Bigbird) Good luck at the 49er. Should be great conditions for you. :)

Jonala - I belong to a club called "Traing Wheels Motorcycle Club" that is what lead me to believe that it might be the same event. All of the enduros that our club puts on (one each month) are in the desert. Always fun and a challange.

Just a guess but I would think that your enduros are more of a woods ride than a desert.

Any hoot have fun, ride fast and be safe.

Les - Come on man, you can do it ..........just bump it up to 200,0000mg of Motrin.;)

Loco, Karna,

Where you there yesterday? Too bad the event was postponed :(.

I did ride the first loop, it would of not been any fun for the kids, or begineers. The rocks, and mud were very slippery.

I give CERA kudo's for making the proper decision to postpone. :D

We were there, after the initial disappointment we concluded that it was a good decision too. We rode for about 3 hours and the trails were a mess. It would have been ridable for the first 10 rows or so, but after that it would have been dangerous, especially for the beginners.

I was amazed at the large turnout of "advanced" riders. There were a ton of people there that were clearly interested in going fast - kind of makes you wonder about "family" part of family enduro. These were the riders that were going to make it dangerous on the slippery trails. A couple of idiots (with enduro numbers on their bikes) on 250 MX bikes nearly ran my son into a tree as we were trail riding. This actually happened 2-3 times during the 3 hours we were on the trail.

My other concern was that it was posted as a "rain or shine" event. It only rained a couple of hours and then canceled. I talked to several people who traveled up from Southern California. Their's was a significant commitment.

We look forward to the rescheduled event.

Jonola and LocoCD,

We showed up late (9:30ish) on Sat. night...After getting in a late dinner
and setting up the tent trailer, etc. we finally retired at 11:30 or so. Boy were we bummed to find out at sign it that the event had been cancelled.
(We are approx. 2 1/2-3 hours from home). We ended up packing up and
going home...we didn't even get in a ride (only because we stupidly forgot
to pack the rain gear). Didn't sound like it was worth it anyways.
Have you heard when/if the event will be rescheduled?? The "rain or shine"
was a little deceiving on the web site...don't know if we can trust the next
one to run. But I can't blame them...sounds like they made a safe
decision!

Loco, and Karna,

I think the rain or shine description would of been relevant if it had just been a light rain, during the night and showers during the day. If it was a real enduro, the club may of really of been sweating out a decision.

This is the same club that the USFS wouldn't allow to run their enduro in the spring because of the damage that was caused from the previous year enduro. Last year at their Fools Gold enduro it rained hard the night before, and during the enduro. The forest service should of told the club not to run it, knowing what kind of damage that would result if the enduro ran.

So I think the club learned a lesson with how the USFS views motorcycle competiton events, they would rather the events disappear. Again considering the course conditions, and the targeted crowd they were hoping that would show up, they did the right thing.

This is why I post enter at events now. Too bad for me I entered Sat. night while the stars were out. So far this year I have post entered even knowing that the conditions would not be ideal.:o

Rain gear ?

So it was canceled then? I left at about 8am after listening to the rain all night. I was wondering if any of you guys were out there. I was in the Flair
Motorhome (with a green stripe) on the right as you turn into Parker Flat.
Maybe we can hook up at the re-scheduled event.

What time did they cancel it and it there a date for the event yet?
I left since I didn't want the 3 kids that I brought up there to ride in such
dangerous conditions.

They put a sign up at about 7:45 announcing the cancellation, later in the morning they were talking tentatively about March.

I'm still facinated that the window of usage is so small. Too dry for months, one rain and it is too wet! But again, it was a good decision.

Maybe we should consider a DRN family ride/event one of these days. I think there are enough beginners, youths and families around to make a fun day of it. We could even set up a private poker run or something... anyone interested?

I'd be up for it, Foresthill would be a good location unless somewhere else
may also work.

Sounds like a good idea. LocoCD do you want to start a new thread, in the Ride forum. I'd be happy to help out. At this time of year, where? Clear Creek, Middle Creek, Deer Creek areas?

Jonola,

Any and all of the mentioned areas would work out well with us. We are
riding this Friday at Deer Creek (to make up for lost riding time on Sunday).
We can let you know how the conditions are after the rain dies down...
We rode at Clear Creek 11/2-11/4 and it started getting dusty toward the
end of the weekend. I bet the conditions will be perfect after this week of
rain! There will be a number of families riding at Clear Creek over
Thanksgiving weekend (us included) if you are interested! Keep us
posted!
