Tranny troubles

I have a 2000 Yz 250...it is fast as hell and runs good...lately I have noticed that shifting into second it a real hassle unless you are gettin on it....and now its starting to shift hard into other gears from third.....but every other gear works fine...could you guys maybe help me out or point to the first thing to check....

i'd start by changing oil type - doubt this is your issue.\

confirm everything externsl is working - ie, the lever is not slipping/bent, the shift shaft is engaging the star correctly...then go inside....

by your explanation i'd suspect problems with your shift forks....

I already changed the oil.....My buddy just rode it.....and now he said it goes into first but acts like it wants to jump out.....a lot of metal shavings in the oil too......i dont know where to start

Ya thats def what I was thinking.....I figured that was what it was going to be. How much do those shift forks run anyone know? Thanks

they are not expensive. getting to them is the bulk of the work. you also need to make sure shift drum is not scarred or worn

Well i tore down my bike this weekend.....It ended up being noe forks bent and the drum was good....My kickstarter return spring...thr little loop at the top broke off and got wedged in between 2 of the gears....I pulled the pieces out and had to replace a bearing and a seal, and washed the cases out good and now it works like a champ!!!

awesome. glad that didn't implode on you or ruin the tranny.....you replaced a bearing and seal and already got it together?? tell me your shop had those parts in stock and i'm changing dealers!!
