Has anyone tried Mobil-1 mx4t 10w40 in transmission? I just changed to this oil and I really like the results so far, with very smooth shifting and good clutch action. Was previously running Bel-Ray 75wt oil and could not find nuteral with bike sitting still and idling with a slight clutch pull(as though clutch was not disengaging). I really recommend this oil although pricey at 7 bucks a quart.
Does any one know that if shifting without clutch will hurt gearbox over time or does this not affect at all? Bike is a 2002 KDX 200. Thanks.

The topic of clutchless shifting has been discussed quite a few times. I think the general consensus is "clutch?? what's that??" or "I love my bike more than my wife and just won't take the chance." I almost never use it for upshifts but usually clutch it for down****ing unless on a steep hill or something.

First I can't figure out why someone would want to put 15w50 into a bike that calls for 10w30 or 10w40.FredT I'm just really curious.Second after reading this thread on the new mobil 1 15w50 formula I am dumbfounded.Anyone care to explain.It just seems to me the engineers who built the bike have tested it more than any of us wish we could.Somebody care to share a view?At least the Mobil 1 MX4T 10w40 was engineered from the ground up for motorcycles even if it says on the bottle engineered for 4 strokes.click here http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46538&highlight=15w50

I see nothing wrong with using Mobil 1 15-50W. If your transmission shifts and clutches fine than its ok. The proper application of oils is dependent on many factors. The Kawasaki manual is only a guideline for the dummies and very generic saying it should meet approved oil standards with viscosity of 10-30W/10-40W. They are not even specific if it is engine oil or gear oil.

I use it because it is a synthetic, it's a VERY good oil. My bike shifts better with it than with Castrol 10W-40. I feel with the quality of the oil my transmission and clutch are getting great lubrication and protection. AND because it's a bit cheaper than MX 4T. I run MX 2T premix - I like Mobil 1 products. I still run them in my new KTM too.

Ok but what about the "NEW" Mobil 1 15w50 formula.Click the link in my post above.Kinda changes things right?What will you switch too?

I bought 2 cases of it at Sams club so it'll be while before I have to worry about it I guess.

Some of you guys are as bad as my wife in the kitchen! Sometimes the cake will turn out fine if you use a few pinches instead of tsps. (crude analogy). The manual also says to use 700ml oil in the case. My bike performs better w/ a smidge shy of a quart - the smidge was used to flush some crud!! Think I'm nuts, I got the recommendation from some Fredette guy, says he knows something about a KDX. The recommended oil isn't 10w40, my bike rips w/20w50, atmospheric temps. will dictate. Just switched from Gearsaver 80, my mistake, shoul've ran the engine oil, guy in the parts at Kawi dealership recommended it. I can now stay in gears longer w/ more power. Now if I can only figure out what these other guys are saying about spark plugs, hard to do when all of my pistons don't fire.

Thanks for all the input on this issue. I am really sold on this product. Experience is the best teacher sometimes. Now I am looking for a real good chain lube that wont fling off after a ride or collect dirt. Anyone have any suggestions?
