I just sold a KX125 and I would disagree with what your dad said. His friends probably broke all the time becuase they are antiques! If you are just going to be riding for fun you can probably get a season out of one top end, and they are easier and cheaper to reuild than a comparable 4 stroke. Used 2 strokes are cheap right now, if you like them you can get alot for your money!

A recreational 2-stroke rider can easily get a year+ out of a MXer top end if you just ride sometimes on the weekend (not every weekend). You can get more out of less high strung 2-stroke trail bikes like a KDX200. It's critical to keep the air filter clean and the crank case oil changed, and use good motor oil at a safe mixture. It's all about maintenance.

two 2-strokes are great, if you are going to be on the track get an mx bike, if your on the trails i recommend a kawasaki kdx. If you want more top speed get the kdx200 if you want more torque get the kdx220. I just got my kdx220 and i love it. It cost me $1300 for the bike and about $300 for new brakes, tires, bearings, and a good cleaning. I love the kdx!!!

2strokes are way easy to work on, and if you're not racing regularly, then you wont need to replace the topend but maybe once a year.. rings every 6months

I support your 4stroke to 2stroke movement! KEEP THEM ALIVE!!!!!!
