CJ & hubby have gone away to look at the rest of New Zealand. It's been a busy/interesting few days.

In a way it was a comedy of errors, but none of us got hurt and that's what matters.

It started Friday night with Henk putting 2 lots of oil in my gas (we run different mixtures in all the bikes), which meant there was no oil in the gas for the KTM CJ's husband was riding on the weekend.

Saturday morning I phoned to check what time the flight was, found out it was delayed so could help Henk pack the van & bikes (we were meeting him at the forest). I checked back a bit later and was told the plane had arrived 25 minutes earlier, meaning I was going to be 45 minutes late. Got to the airport & after looking around asked what time the flight had got in (it wasn't on the board). It had just arrived, the answerphone message had been wrong. So I waited around by the arrivals until people fitting their description turned up - I'd seen the photos but CJ had emailed me to say she'd cut her hair and I figured it was real short - it wasn't. Very easy to recognise, so at least I didn't have to go up to total strangers to ask if they were CJ & hubby (I've had to in the past and get all sorts of wierd looks hehehe).

I'd promised Henk we'd get breakfast, but by the time we were heading to the forest it was almost lunch, so didn't bother stopping.

The clutch plates on my trials bike had bonded together, so a quick ride sorted that out (thankfully). CJ & I went riding after the guys had gone, and as we came to a clearing there's Will playing golf. Yes, the KTM had seized, but we didn't figure out why initially and thought it was the bottom end gone toast (it needed a rebuild but we didn't have time before they arrived, so were hoping for the best).

CJ liked the KDX, and loooooooved the TM250 - she can fill in the details when she gets home ;) The thing that she couldn't get over was the power difference riding at sea level and thought the KDX was as powerful as the KTM200's (I still haven't tried one, but guess at sea level it will have heaps more power). At least she didn't hurt herself on the TM, the lever was easy to fix hehehehe. Will & Henk spent the day swapping between the Fantic & the TM (mainly Henk on the TM).

Sunday we were going to do a farmland ride, but I didn't think the Fantic would cope due to overheating, so after many discussions we decided that Henk & Will would ride and CJ & I would watch. It was fun as driving down the road we could stop & watch everyone going up hills & spot them for miles. (about 300 riders). We all had lunch together and I'd been hoping we could go to the beach to watch, but access wasn't available, so we headed up a hill and had a great view. Half the guys had to show off for the camera, so I hope Jen's pix turn out. It was a good day, my bike spooged so incredibly much, which gave it away as to why the 360 had seized lol. We only just made the ride in time as breakfast took so long to turn up - eaten on the way out there.

Monday Jen, Will & I went to a beach, bike shop, information centre about the forest area/Auckland and had fun, also doing some shopping along the way.

All in all it was a good weekend, they left this morning, so I had to wash the bikes, but ended up running around getting oil & boring stuff as well.

So, sorry, but you'll have to wait a couple of weeks till Jen can give you a full report, we were just too busy.

Oh, Saturday night they went to sleep & we were meant to go out, but never made it. We got home from a walk (Henk & I), to see a cat lying in the middle of the road and a car stopped. Henk went over to see if it was one of ours, then when I followed, I said yes it was. We picked the cat up, grabbed the spade, dug the hole, buried the cat and Henk looked inside to see our "dead" cat sitting there cleaning himself. So we don't know who we buried, but are glad it wasn't Dude.
Hope everyone else had fun

Great report, Michelle! How did CJ and Will like NZ terrain compared to Colorado?

Glad you all had a good time, and that the cat you found in the road wasn't yours!

They found our trails tight, "claustrophobic", with the trees way close together. With the farmland ride, we had to keep wiping the smile off Will's face everytime we saw him. It was a shame we couldn't all go riding, but the ride is on again next year around the same time, so CJ's going to be coming over for it. (Will's done it, so no point in him coming over again, let's save them some money hehehehehe)

The good thing is, now CJ will be able to tell you all how slow I am (hehe, I only stuffed up once, just got a hill wrong & stopped, still not sure what dumb thing I did, it wasn't tricky).

Actually, after seeing a book on Colorado, I'm coming over. We're going to win the lottery & shout our Kiwi friends a trip there.

WOW; MAJOR COOL to finally meet Michelle and Henk after emailing for what seems like eons. First off, HUGE thanks to you two for practically taking us in off the street and showing us your GREEN and beautiful country as well as sharing some great laughs. In Henk’s now infamous words, “It’s all good!”

OK now let me show you why I told Michelle I felt a little claustrophobic on the trail. It’s all those PLANTS! Then we popped out of the plants and there was the OCEAN! That's me, Henk, Bruce (takes a lot of ribbing due to his being a Pampera owner), and Michelle. 'Really liked riding Michelle's TLM through the slalom course of a trail that they had cut through the trees. LOTS of tight turns. FUN! All the bikes seemed to have more power there at sea level, but Henk's bike had the scariest amount of power. His TM WAS (past tense) a new bike, but then I got hold of it, twisted the throttle just a little, and WHAP I was DOWN in an instant! SCARY power! I liked Michelle's KDX quite a bit, though. Plenty of friendly power and felt good. If only the seat were just a bit shorter (my mantra).

Yup, there's more! While Michelle and I were busy chatting it up, Henk and Will participated in the largest trail ride I'd ever seen. He's a pic of all what NZ folks consider an AVERAGE WEEKEND get together. On their ride, the encountered STREAM CROSSINGS, and SAND DUNES, and OCEANS, and did I mention MORE OCEANS?!

As Michelle mentioned, she gave up her bike for the day so that Will could ride with Henk. He TOTALLY couldn't wipe the smile from his face for the entire day. HOWEVER, now he won't stop talking about picking up used KDX for "the both of us" (yeah right!) since he was REALLY impressed by how well the bike handled all the varied terrain. Hmmm. Thanks a lot Michelle; LOL!

hehehe, it could be worse, he could be talking about getting a TM, or, heaven forbid, a KTM

Henk's getting a flywheel weight put on next week, so hopefully that will tame the beast a bit (put it this way, I'm not sure I'll bother figuring it out or not).

Wait; there's more! After meeting up with Michelle's friend's Julie and Dean for an evening of eating pizza, drinking beverages, and telling stories (mostly Henk and Dean told the stories because they are both QUITE chatty), we rented a street bike to see some more of NZ. Michelle's DUDE KITTY approved of our STREET BIKE selection and claimed the nice comfy seat as his own. We saw some beautiful landscapes like this very blue WATERFALL, this beautiful MOUNTAIN RANGE, this blue SHORELINE, and this cool-looking ROCK OUTCROP. We throughly enjoyed this ROAD and this ROAD too. The second toughest thing about the trip was remembering to KEEP LEFT. The first toughest thing was saying goodbye to Michelle and Henk and heading home. Thanks for everything!!! (And come to the US for a Spodefest soon!)

Henk chatty??? He's as quiet as a mouse. He's getting worse too, I now have another place I have to tell him an hour before I want to go home that we should head off soon. Then again, he's pretty quiet at this place due to this couple being "chatty" lol.

Now, all you women, don't forget (start planning) the ISDE is "possibly" being held over here in 2006, so hope to meet some of you then (unless I've managed to save enough to come over there).

What beautiful pictures, and I love the way you put them into the story of your trip. It makes me want to visit. ISDE in 2006, huh? Maybe I could save enough by then to be a spectator.

Thanks for sharing the experience with us, ladies.

Awesome pictures, CJ! Makes me want to jump on a plane and just GO!

Claustrophobic? Naw, that's perfect! Besides, those nice pines and leafy plants will move out of your way..

2006? I might be able to save up some pennies to be an ISDE spectator by then!

Muuahhahaa

'Got our old-fashioned non-digital pics back and I had to post one here. Michelle is not one to jump in front of the pointy end of a camera, but I caught her off guard! Here's MICHELLE WITH HENK'S TM!

Hey Rod- 'Heard everybody had fun in Moab. I definitely needed the weekend to recover, but now I'm ready to go! There were some pics from our Pueblo ride in this stack, so I'll email the one of you and Doug as soon as I can!

Will & Jen, no problemo, it was fun :) (it's all good hehehe)

Will, one problemo I do have with your post - CJ has a 2smoke - it's you that rides a thumper lol

Rod, believe me, I'd be on the first plane outta here if I could afford it (actually me coming over without Henk has been discussed, but then he decided he wanted to meet everyone too).
