Hey guys, after hearing you guys tell me to get an instruction manual about 150 times whenever i asked a question, i decided to go on ebay and order a 2001 yz 125 instruction cd. Ok so when i got it i was pretty excited and decided to check it out, i put it in and i was looking through it and i happened to stumble on gas mixtures......it said 1:25?????, isn't that a little too much oil, before i got the manuel i was running like 1:36 and it was smoking a whole lot....i don't know, is this right??!?!? and do you guys think i did any damage to the bike?

thanks

Where did you get 36:1?

What's wrong with 32:1?

I'd say anything with less gas in it was probably just for breakin purposes.

well my one friend rides a kx 125 and he uses 40:1, someone told me that its a little to little oil, than my other friend uses 32:1 ratio and people tell me that its a little too much oil, so im a chemistry student and i decided to do some calculations so kinda get in the middle, i kinda like 20oz for every 5 gals

Some of the Yamaha manuals recommend running 25:1 durring break in and then switching to 36:1. Don't ask me what stupid engineer thought up this crap, because more oil durring break in only means the engine will run hotter! I know this for a fact because a good friend of mine bought new YZ85's the last two ('07 & '08) years for his son, and he showed me this in his owners manual for both bikes.
But, he had Eric do 103cc big bore kits in both engines, and Eric told him to just run his normal premix ratio.

If you run what the manufacture recommends for that particular bike, then you have your best chance at being able to get it to run properly. If it says 20:1 and you for what ever reason, say a friend said to put 40:1 in it so it smokes less. Now you are going to have to change every jet and needle in the carb to accommodate all this gasoline and no oil that for some insane reason got changed. Run what is recommended and figure your issues are somewhere else. Start with the trouble shooting page usually in the manual.

If you jet the bike properly you are doing it a favor running more oil in the mix. By running less oil you are giving crucial parts less lubricant. The oil in the gas is the lubricant for the cylinder wall, crank, and wrist pin bearing. Rich Rohrich often ran his bikes at 16:1 with very little smoke and/or spooge because he took the time to jet them properly- I know this because I bought a bike from him a while back.

I love that, a good percentage of the noobs have issues. First, reduce the amount of oil in the gas, problem solved, seemingly. Then there is Rich, 18:1, outstanding!

More oil in a hard revving 2 stroke always seems like a good idea to me! GO with 32:1 or less !!!!

My Yamaha WR200 manual says to use 14:1 for break in then 24:1 after that. Seemed like too much oil to me so I used 32:1 which made the bike run rich. After changing jets and settling on 28:1 I finally have the jetting close to what it should be.

My manual suggested a higher percentage of oil if you were using a petroleum oil and less oil if you are running a synthetic.

Wow you guys all run a lot of oil :whoa:

I'm running 50:1 w/ amsoil Dominator synthetic. Jetting was fine with this mix until I put the fmf pipe on it.
