A trail bike like that, I wouldn't think twice about buying used. Save your self some money and as long as its been taken care of there really aren't any reliability issues to worry about. Go used.
Unless you have plenty of money, always buy used, let the other guy eat all of the depreciation. You do understand that a $5000 bike off of the showroom is worth about $4000 when you get it home? The key is to know what you are looking for when buying used.
