i love dirtbikes more than anything, even cars, and i'm 16. i dont have a job but hopefully soon and i got about $1000 to spend on a bike. i need a decent bike because the one that i just bought i need to take the guy who sold it to me to court because he lied about the year of it and the condtion, the bike was a 1987 not a 1990 and the rear hub needed replacing, not just new $20 bearings:ugg: . so i need some advice on what bikes are good for $1000, it would probably be a 1990 to 1995 model year bike, so what type of bike would be best if it were in well kept condition. i'm looking for a 125 or 250(rather have a 250) MX bike(b/c of power). does anyone have ANY suggestions or experiences, i'm looking for any help.

For $1,000 you could get a 1986-1990 125 2-stroke in good condition. Anything over a 1991 for $1,000 probably has some kind of problem or somethin. For a 250 then something in good condition would be in the mid 80s.

Take your time

Now is the time to look for deals, My son bought his 1995 KX125
last spring for $1100. I went to Georgia for my restored 1989 KX125 for $1000.
See if your area has a 'Trader' magazine/paper. Around here you find them in convience stores. Be FAST... the good deals go quick. You will probably never find anything for $1000 in a shop.
Good Luck.

Since you live in central Jersey, it's winter time about now. Not much riding to be done in the next 3 months. Try and save/earn another $500 in those 3 months and wait to make your purchase closer to spring. More bikes show up for sale around spring time and with $1,500 you can find yourself a nice early 90's 250. You didn't say what kind of riding you do, so don't rule out a KDX 200 or 220 or maybe even a KTM 200. The KDX line is not for MX but if you ride trails this is a great bike and they tend to be cheaper than a 250 MX bike.
In the next 3 months scour every want ad and internet site you can, because there are a ton of great deals out there. Don't be afraid to haggle with someone. If you see a bike for sale for around $1,200, call the guy and offer him your $1,000 cash on the barrel head. You would be surprised how fast people are willing to come down in price when they see the green in front of them.
