I was out riding my 93' yz250 yesterday, all was well I had been riding for about an hour, then it just makes a weird knocking noise all of the sudden so I let off the throttle, and it just dies. It was running great right before this. It almost sounds like a diesel or something. And it will start but it won't idle, its like its having some resistance or something. I did have plenty of coolant and it had good oil and gas. Is it the topend going out? Thanks for the help, I'm new to this stuff.

Bearings is what it sounds like to me. Piston pin, rod, or crank bearings. It happens. Parts are not too bad, cost wise. If you do all your own work, you could maybe get it done for under $400. Buy a manual first and see if it's something you can tackle before you pull off any parts. If not, sell it and buy another $1500 250 and call it good.
