Thanks for that tip. I'll look it up for the KX60 to get an idea.
The CR85 is 32.4 inches
The XR50 is 21.6 inches
He is too tall for his XR50 but he is not ready in size or skill for an 85 so I am looking at this. I called the Honda dealer and although it doesn't need one now, he has a piston and rings set for the bike available.

I've found a KX60 that I'm going to look at tomorrow. It has a seat height of 28.0 inches. He rode, (tried to ride) a KX65 and it is too tall for him. The seat height on that is 29.9 inches. I think the 60 might be good enough to last him about 2 years maybe.
The seat height on the CR60 is about the same as the KX60. the 83-84 CR60R is a very rare bike that Jimmy Button actually had a hand in developing as a test rider back in 1982. If you find a clean one, GRAB IT. It will perform no differently in non-racing environments than the KX60, which did not change from 85 onwards.
I'd wager that a CR60 would still be competitive at the novice level in MX.
