We are in the market for a new canopy. We have a camping-style canopy that is a 10'x10" that we got many years ago. It has served us well, but is a pain to carry around, as the poles are 8' long and it takes a good 15 minutes to setup, and then another 15 minutes to tear down.

Have always liked the E-Z up canopies-- compact storage, and no time to set up. But what about wind resistance? How do they hold up in the rain? If you get the 4 sidewalls, can you also use it as a camping tent?

Comments and experiences please! Also, if you know of a website that sells them reasonably priced, let me know.

We've been using 2 of these for 4 seasons now http://www.costco.com/Browse/Produc...d=10012416&ec=BC-EC5670-ProdID10037513&pos=0F

I've been very happy with them. You need to make sure you always stake down your canopy, and on windier days I also end up using my tie downs and hook it up to things like gas cans, tool boxes etc for extra weight. It comes with the 4 sidewalls although we never use ours. They are pretty solid if you can put the sidewalls up out of the wind, If you are trying to put them up and it's windy good luck :bang:

I managed to find a 10x10 EZ-Up brand canopy for $79 dollar bucks a while back. One guy can rassle it up, but two is better. I'm sure you could put "walls" on it, but I won't be buying them from EZ-Up, as everything else they sell seems to be pricey. A couple tarps would probably do. It's also got little holes in each leg to stake it down, but I've never had it up in wind enough to need them.

We got our ez ups at Sams Club for $99. It is 10x10 and comes with 4 sidewalls. Can be put up in a couple minutes with 1 person or better with 2.
If it is windy be sure to use straps to weights or better yet stakes in the ground. We lost one a t redbud a couple years back that landed a couple rows of cars down the line in a mangled mass

Sams also carried a $70 version but it is far cheaper construction and the ones I have seen usually are shot in a month or so ours are over 3 years old and altho some scars show they work great and function perfectly

Be carefull, not all 10'x10' canopys measure 10'x10'. That is because the measurements are taken from the bottom. So on a 10x10 with tapered legs, you are left with an 8'x8' canopy.

The other advantage to a straight-legged canopy, when you camp with other who have straight-legged canopys, they can be easily ganged together.

Have the EZ-Up 10x10........wal mart $100. It has a white fabric top that I wish was plastic of some kind. It works well until the rain comes down.......then the fabric seems to stretch, and the top ponds water....enough that you have to empty it by hand. (gets real heavy) If I had it to do again, I'd go with a water repellant top.

Get the Express II, not the Dome. The structural integrity of the Express is far superior.

Yeah, that's the one we were looking at. The "Dome" is certainly inexpensive, it just doesn't look as sturdy.

Lori, The dome is what I have (the Yellow Suzuki one) and it sucks (blows over, folds up, etc) in the wind. While I hate to agree with Gomer, I have to on this one :debil:
