Whats the Most; Neibour Friendly Silencer?

I have a 2004 YZ 250, and im wondering if there are any aftermarket silencers that are quieter than the stock one, but still make the same or more power...? Also would the noise reduction be enough to be worth the cost of the silencer?

Is it pointless to purchase a aftermarket silencer and keep the stock pipe, as I am quite happy with the power my bike already produces for now.....and the stock pipe is still in great shape minus the obvious, small roost dents

I put the FMF Q on my bike and it made a big difference in sound but didn't hurt the power too much. I was looking for quite and didn't mind a power hit but was surprized how much power remained. The silencer is over 2 inches longer than stock so it looks different but what the hey!!

My neighbors are pricks, so you know what I do, I run shortys' on my bike, and rip down the side of the road at11:00PM. That makes them really happy. The pricks video tape anyways so i figure ****em.

Congrats.

Let me tell you something. You have no idea how big of a pricks these neighbors are. These ****ers video tape me and play it to the cops. I didn't do it until they started calling cops at least once a week and I said that was the last straw theres also many other reasons too, but I'm not going to type all day. I understand that loud bikes get people pist off in certain riding areas. But I tend to ride tracks that are tighter and prefer that crisp bottom end snap that you get from a shorty and they make the bike sound awesome. BRAAP! But for running a quieter silencer I would lean to the fmf Turbinecore 2 Q silencer. Fmf claims its only 93db and you dont lose much if any power.

They video taped me just to prove to the police that I rode it on the side of the road and I was just jetting it because of a pipe/silencer or just taking it for a quick ride after school. Okay maybe its not once a week but enough that the cop told me himself that he's sick of them calling and coming out to my house. Theres been times that they wont come over and they just call my house instead. They accuse me of nothing but irritating them. I've been fined once because of it. I was charged for disordely conduct and got a nice $50 fine. I never did anything to them and I've been riding bikes around for several years but he must get his jollies off of calling the cops on me or something.

I am stuck for words......(almost) Not everyone loves BRAAAP. Even though they may be difficult and over-the-edge neighbors, I DO think they have a right to be irritated.......the FMF Q and other "quiet" type mufflers are a good idea I believe. Noise is the number 1 reason our riding areas are disapearing. Rude and inconsiderate is.......rude and inconsiderate. In the long run, we all lose. If you lived on my block, the police would be on speed-dial! :| Also, please notice that the person who started this thread is asking what we think would help to be considerate of others. It's worded....."neighbor friendly." If you're going to join our brotherhood..... you gotta play the game.

does anyone know the stock 2004 yz 250 silencers db rating might be??? I currently dont have a problem with having the cops called, nor do I need to hear the braap to know that my bikes fast.....I just would like to keep riding the tracks I currently am riding with minimal neibour disturbance....I know that even the quietest silencer will still be loud, but as I stated, I currently do not have a problem, and just want to keep it that way.....Even the must understanding neibour will someday become sick of my fun.......

Blue,

You gotta remember, you are setting a precedent. If you run up and down the road (illegal) at all hours so can every other punk in your neighborhood who has a bike or quad or other (pick your poison). The anarchy will escalate until, almost certainly, someone will pull a stunt that will get someone injured or killed.

When you take the position that your neighbors can **** off, you are not just offending them, but you are also offending me and others who play by the rules.

When you are old enough to own your own planet, you can move there and make your own rules.

Who's it going to be up to, to make the situation right? We all make choices. And maturity is.....a realistic and healthy look at the consequences of them. I learned the hard way.... ;)

Have FMFs Q on my RM250. Though it's not as quiet as I'd like it to be, I think one of the quietest available. When standing next to the bike, it doesn't sound much different than stock......but seems that sound does not carry as far.....perhaps a lower tone? Either 93 or 96 decibels? It's US Forest legal. Don't know the stock rating of your YZ or my RMs mufflers.....but I have heard that a mere 2 points in decibels is almost twice as loud.......(or something like that, don't quote me) Anyway, when I saw the scale of differences, it suprised me.

It doesn't even need to be a planet, just your own home.

I run an FMF Turbinecore on my 05 KX and it is somewhat quieter and has the spark arrestor of course. But what is truly interesting is that it makes more power than my stock silencer !! I thought it was just wishful thinking on my part, so I swapped them back and the bike was noticeably down on bottom and top with the stock silencer...plus it was a lot louder.

Mine isn't the "Q" model, but most of the loud noise now is coming from the pipe itself before the silencer. Really there isn't much you can do about that though.

Another way to help quiet down a 2 stroke is with a fiberglass or carbon fiber pipe guard. They can help to dampen some of the noise that comes from the expansion chamber.
