Ok im a bit late on picking up with whats going on, ive seen it on web sites but never bothered to read about it, but today it was on motoworld. Dont know if people have seen it and how far behind it is but it had the CEO from the ama racing dept. and vice pres. of some part of clear.... but anyways what seems to be happenign aint good for supercross, but i also read some where that clear has the promotion rights the UK supercross and were trying to get into other countries and in the end making a World Championship of supercross. After the ama cutting down on the number of nationals they have and the power that dorna have with world championship motocross, its going to be interesting what pans out around 2004 - 05 - 06 and beyond.

So far the big companies involvment(im not pointing the finger at any one company) in the Uk , has produced nothing for the fans but loads of money for a few individuals.

I think the AMA may have stepped on it's, er, manhood over this one. They don't like Clear Channel for some reason, so they get another promoter. Clear Channel (with the deep pockets and ALL the outside sponsors) has locked up most of the current venues. The AMA is playing catch up, and I'm not sure they'll catch them.
The AMA could end up being the minor leagues over this . . .:(

My understanding is that the AMA has just singed a letter of intent with Jam sports to be there new promoter. I'm not a lawyer but I hope they can still get out of this if things don't start to develop for the AMA in 2003.
Ultimately I think this will come down to who has the better TV package. Venues are important but 50,000 people at an event doesn't compare to the exposer that the sponsors get when the races are nationally televised on a major network.
CC has already announced there TV package for 2003, it will be the same as 2002. (3 or 4 races on ABC the rest on ESPN) Can you say "women's softball".
If the AMA and JAM can get a deal where FOX shows 9 or 10 races and the rest on Speed Vision witch they just acquired then it will be a tough decision for the teams.
The teams will go where it's best for there sponsors.

Good point stretch. TV coverage is going to be the key. Also, I believe I read somewhere that 3 of the 4 Japanese manufacturers sit on the AMA Board of Directors (can't remember which one doesn't--I think it's Yamaha), so they may stick with AMA/JamSports. But, the biggest star (McGrath) rides a Yamaha, and they may go over to Clear Channel (depending on how the 4-stroke mess goes, East/West 125 SX, etc.), and some teams may follow the "Big Name" guy.

Letter of intent? Is that like the letter of intent that KW had with Yamaha before he switched to Honda a few years back?;)
So that's why MXA loves Yamaha and at the same time always bashes the AMA!:p
If RC beats MC again or if it's even close, I would be surprised if MC moved to a venue where he could not challenge him again. Would people think he was moving to a series that had easy pickings? Remember when he did the Summer SX thing (or whatever it was) at the Rose Bowl during the Nationals (last year?) and he was the only big rider? Kind of a joke in my opinion.
If there are 2 series, each with their own riders, I think the competition will go downhill. When you go to a supercross now, you see all of the top riders racing together. That results in some great, intense racing. Who wants to go to a race where there are only a handfull of good riders while all the others are in the other series? Will supercross start to become a bit boring?

I would take time off to catch a race only to watch fat chick's play Softball....LAME!!!!!!!:mad:
So if Clear Channel can only come up with the same coverage, they will be hurt because I know Jam Sports iis going for a major market TV deal!!!;)

Who puts on the US Open? If it is on its own, it may be the only race all year that will bring everyone together in the same event. That will be the only "real" race. But, I guess this could only happen if all the riders decide to go and not boycott the event (like some have done in the past). Its a shame to see the sport get so political. :(

I don't like it at all. I hope that one of them folds after a year so that there will only be one because it would suck to have the riders split up. It would make it boring.:(
