Which Tranny Oil Husky 50J (Moto Morini)

I recently purchased a 2001 Husky 50J with the same Moto Morini motor that's on almost all of the mini's. The dealer gave me a quart of 20W-20W motot oil that he recommended I use in the tranny/clutch. I have used it all up and I have a big stash of BelRay Gear Saver 80W that I use in my KTM 300 tranny. Is there any reason that I couldn't use it in the Husky. Are there any other recomendations. Even though it was recomended by the dealer, I think that I could do much better than straight 20W motor oil in the tranny even though it is quite cheap.

The motor oil is fine, but there's no reason you couldn't use the Gear Saver.

Cobra reccomends standard ATF in their Moto Morini motors. Either way you want something thin. The clutch will sorta drag if you don't. Also change your oil very often. We use ATF and since its $4 a gallon we change it after every race day. We definetly don't run more than 4 moto's before changing. Thats how our Mod 1999 has been run since new and no bottom end problems.

Hi there.

My names Loz, and I work for www.harglo-performance.com , the UK Malaguti and DB motors importer. We are also the official UK importer/distributor for Franco Morini.

The recommended oil to use in both the Franco Morini S5 and new S6 engines is a basic 20w50 motor oil. An ATF oil or any purpose made clutch/transmission oil will wear out your clutch very quickly.

I have to disagree strongly. As I have already said Cobra reccomends ATF. Almost everyone here in the US uses this in the Morini motored Cobra and we don't have any problems. We have run a single clutch for an entire season without needing a new one. I think the problem is that people don't pay enough attention to the oil changes. Here in Az we will typically race in 100ºF+ days all summer. Still the only problems we see are the clutch washers wearing out. This is using the cheapo walmart brand ATF.
