Why Do SO Few Dealers Stock Many KTM Parts?

With all of the complaints about Holeshot it makes me wonder why a small shop in Ohio is one of the few dealers in the U.S. that stocks almost all parts for a KTM. If KTM wants to compete with the Big 4 I think this is something they need to resolve. If I need a part for a Jap bike I have 5 dealers in a 50 mile radius trying to get my business for a part most of them have in stock. And you can get it at a fair price. It's not like that for KTM's. If you want it you can find it but usually need to pay a premium. Even the bigger KTM dealers around me stock very little for them.

Dealers...

My local KTM dealer even makes me pre-pay for their out of stock (ANY) stick on numbers. It seems they won't carry anything...not even the # 1. I don't shop there anymore. It's a good thing I can get advice in here!:)

I must be lucky, my local dealer is very good about stocking most parts.
I don't remember the last time I had to order a part, they always had them in stock. Letko Cycles in KC,Ks. I can recommend. :)
Who put that tree there ?

It all depends on your local Market.

Here in Northeast Pennsylvannia I have the opposite problem. I went to 5 dealers for RM80 rear brake pads and a Honda CR250 master cylinder rebuild kit and found none, had to mail order. As for KTM my local dealer is small and stocks the maintance stuff and if I tell him by tuesday I need something I have it for Friday or Saturday otherwise I have 4 other great KTM dealers within 100 miles that will do the same (get me to the race on sunday).

I have found that the local smaller KTM dealers that maintain an interest in the local race circuit seem to be the best to deal with. Some larger multi line dealers that cater to the sport bike/ATV market have poor parts selection for the average off road racer.

I'd say you're lucky to have good jap dealers around you that stock parts. All of the dealerships within 60 miles of me (all Japanese brands, KTM, GG) stock not much more than spark plugs. Mail order is the rule no matter what brand I own.

www.cyclezonektm.com and www.larsonscycle.com both have a great inventory of KTM parts.
