My son and I rode in the Wilseyville HS, our first attempt at hare scramble.

The track was amazing, perfect traction for the first race (A,B.C Seniors/SSeniors). I was surprised at the technical nature of the track. I thought hare scrambles were suppose to be a little more open, my 650 was a hand full.

I was amazed at the speed of some of the A Seniors. DirtBikeDave was VERY fast, blew by me like I wasn't moving.

Not a great showing, but 3 laps. 1 crash (believe it or not because a spectator let their dog run in front of me),and the middle of the pack in C Seniors wasn't too bad for my first race.

Yes it was a great track with great traction. My self I took two more trips over the bars and it's getting old. It's was not so bad when I was young but as a Senior my body is starting to hurt all over and it sucks. Put a hole in my shin though my boot, knee pad and pants that took 3 stiches, but I managed to do my 4 laps.

LocoCD I think you mean Dave Wood was Very fast. Wood & Wells went by me together on the gas and I got to watch them go up a hill together on the gas for a second then they were gone.

I was 3 off the line in the C Senior class with you. Electric start KTM 520.

Glad you had a great time. The racing is so friendly it's fun to do and you will meet a lot of good guys.

It was a great course with perfect conditions. I rode in the A/B race. I just took it easy in the rocky technical sections and passed alot of riders that went down. I was sure glad to see the checkered flag after lap 5. I like these type of courses that slower and more technical than the wide open fast couses.

LocoCD, thanks for the compliment, but I wasn't there! I agree with Ret Senior, it was probably Dave Wood. I ride one of his old bikes and it is SWEET, but the only guys I blow by like they are standing still really are standing still! :) Glad you had a great time.

And congrats to Angry Jim - 3rd Vet B! Good job, Jim!

Yes, I was referring to Dave Wood, I didn't think old guys rode that fast! Any of you other geezers sore this morning?

RetSenior, I've been thinking about a 520EXC since the 2002s are now green sticker bikes in CA. I was also considering a smaller displacement bike, but I'm a little spoiled with my 650's torque.

We will be riding in all the family enduros next year and will try to make a few more regular races. We have only been riding a year and are trying to ease into it. It is a lot of fun and with the exception of the start, seems relatively safe:confused:.

BTW, did you see the C race start in the afternoon - guys were crashing all over the place in the first turn, some pretty spectacularly!

I was way out of shape for this race. I rode Vet C. I have not been riding for a few months and I was dead after the first lap, I could barely hold on to the bike. I am really disappointed that I did not get myself into shape for the race. I went down on the third lap on the hill after the first creek crossing past the finish check. On the other laps I would jump over the back side hole with the root in the middle of it. I got on the gas too hard and the bike got crossed up on me. I hurt my shoulder and my Camelbak straps got pulled out. I watched about 15 people that I had just passed go zipping by as I pulled myself together. I missed my 4th lap by 4 riders. I did get to see a fist fight on the first lap at a 5 minute bottle neck at a hill. The conditions were great. On a add note my KX310 only used 1 gallon of fuel for 3 laps, and I had a slick uncomfortable 4 gallon tank, doh! A 200 would have been a fun bike for this race. I plan to train and do better next year.

Dave, that was funny. nice to be humble.

Yes congrats Jim, parked in front of you but never saw you to say Hi. Not sure if you were still sleeping in your tent or not. Anyway good ride.

Did not get to see the afternoon race. How funny went to a dirt bike race and a fist fight broke out. Were they hitting each other in the helmet and shoulder pads.

They were fully padded. One guy tried to get around the other and the other guy grabbed his front brake. They started trying to push each other over and then they started punching each other on the helmets and chest protectors. They actually ended up shaking hands. THe raced stopped as we all spectated at the silly exchange.

RetSR, I didn't know you were there. Sorry I missed you guys. I was hanging out with my racing buddies all weekend.

That was a very cool layout. The traction was great everywhere and there was NO dust! The 200 was very sweet on the single track. That was the first time I've ridden there. I heard it was tough, but we got lucky with the conditions this year. I hope to see you guys on trail soon. That was a good ride to end the year with!

It was a great layout, after a couple of hours of rest I was thinking, "sure would be cool to ride it at trail riding speed just to enjoy it". Highlights from my perspective:
* River crossings and the creek bed portion
* That gnarly hill that a lot of people had to think about for a minute, some guy followed me up on a 250, I could hear him screaming from the rock infested roost
* The absolute perfect traction and no dust, the short fire road sections were a blast
* The series of steep up and down gullies, just enough of a challenge to make you smile

BTW, the D-36 web site said 450 riders participated!

Man!! I wish I would have raced. I have planned to race this event for the last 4 years but things keep getting in the way. I remember the previous years it was the Black Water so I didn't but this year I was (and my 13 yr old son) were going to give it a go. But.......I ended up giving myself a concussion at Club Moto a few weeks ago and then the weekend after that I
went head first into a tree at Foresthill. The tree really had an impact on how I feel about going fast little-alone racing........so I just went to Carnegie. :(
But I am feeling better......I really hate hitting my head. I did throw the helmet away though, two hits like that and it's a paper weight.

Jimt

My son (13 also) and I are planning on riding all the family enduros as a "team" next year. Perhaps we can link up.

He will be riding as many of the kids cross country series as possible, they sure are a lot of fun.

LoCo,
Maybe we can hook up. We usually do as many Family Enduros as we can.
We haven't raced any of the Hare Scrambles yet but maybe I can suggest this to him to see if he would like to.
Is there a date for the TWE?

CERA's web site now says spring 2002. Hope it doesn't conflict with the Wild Piglet.

The youth series hare scrambles are very cool. Usually a 1-2 mile track, some technical, mostly open, lots of sweepers on the trail (they follow the younger riders very closely). There were probalbly 40 riders in the Wilseyville race. The kids all seem to have a great time.

We also ride some of the HHORA family events at Hollister Hills (my wife and daughter join us for these).
