Putting in a new wiseco unit, have a question about ring installation. I noticed the rings have a "n" on one side. Does it matter if these face up or down?
Thanks for any help

Does the piston become very noisy if you install them with the n facing down ? - also, why does it make a difference?
Thanks

When I put my new piston & rings in about 5 weeks ago (wiseco) I followed the directions that came w/ the kit. It made no mention of upside or downside, but now that you mention it, I remember seeing how the rings are notched . I don't think I payed much attention to which way I put them in although The cylinder went on quite smoothly. I can't seem to get the bike to stop pinging, especially at low throttle. Could this be the problem? Maybe mine are notched the same way at both ends and it varies from model to model.

Thanks

If you didn't install them right, you would have broken the ends off of the rings from trying to force them together tight enough to get the cylinder on.

When I installed a Wiseco piston in my 2001 CR250, the directions said it didn't matter which side you had facing up. I think you're alright.

Markings on the top of a ring is a Japanese SAE standard. Its most usefull on Keystone rings, rings with a flat bottom and tapered top. All Wiseco 2-stroke rings are flat on both sides so it doesn't matter which position the "N" mark is at.
