I rode out at Sam Houston in Conroe this past weekend and while I was packing it up, a couple came with a couple of bikes in the back of a truck. What was weird was that in the passenger seat was what looked to be a girl, good looking by the way, from the ages of 18 to 22. I was only wondering if this is a growing trend. Is the activity finally reaching out to the opposite sex? I hardly see women ride, and this one wasn't on a little XR200, it was more like a YZ125/250(didn't look that close). Most girls I know think that only men are allowed on two wheels, but from some posts, I know that this doesn't extend to everyone. Also, I will start riding consistently in Waco in about a month, and if any young women or guys want someone to ride with, trails or MX, I could use the company(I am used to riding in Houston). Oh well, just wanted to know if women were finally getting into it, or if this was just an isolated incident.

Isolated incident? Check out the women’s forum. Also look at www.mxgirls.com, www.womensmxhistory.com, www.vixenoffroad.com, www.xgirlsport.com, www.wml-mx.com . We have our own gear, our own sanctioning body, and there are more than a few of us. We don’t all ride XRs either. I am one of the several who ride KTM 200s, and there are gals on 125s, 250s, and 500s. I can’t believe you’ve never seen a gal on a bike before! We had a women’s ISDE team this year, a 6-round WML national series, and most local districts have a women’s class too. There are about 6 diehards at our hare scramble/enduro series and a few more who come to some of them.

It's an anomaly. Chicks don't really ride. All these "women" on this board are really 50 year old guys who are very good at doctoring pictures (see their picture pages--looks real, doesn't it?)

Don't believe what they say. Those old farts will come up with all sorts of stuff to make them sound female.

:p

Our local off-road series has ~50 females at every race, roughly 10 percent of the total turnout.

Yesterday, I had a rather forgettable day-ran up close to front only to pull off because of nagging injuries.
As I get back ot the pits, Amanda Lappe-a Mo Series Hare Scrambler who has wrapped up her class this year, was back @ her vehicle changing. She happened to be pitted next to me, and I came back to the pits early-I was NOT trying to be some kind of perv.
Yup, that was a new experience for me-I was awful red faced. She was very nice about it though and even offered to help me load up my bike as I limped around.
Dang if my pride didn't get in the way of accepting her help, so I declined-only to be stuck in that half loaded/unloaded spot. All of a sudden my bike got lighter, see I knew I could do it hurt. Nope it was Amanda giving me a hand.
Awful nice girl, awful fast too. I don't mind those pretty faces bangin' bars:)

That would be soooo nice. There might be a dozen or so at the motocross races, but the biggest gate I’ve ever seen at a hare scramble was 12, and that was a shock to see. Even fewer brave the enduros.

I rode round 3 of the TRH family enduro at Sam Houston national forest. I can honestly say that all the women riders there were FAST... The woman who won the women’s class was around 50yr’s old (?) and was riding a TT-R125L, very nice old lady and extremely fast. I’m sure anyone of those girls could kick my ass at racing, well they all DID kick my ass. My friend Tasha races MX, she is just about the coolest girl I know. She rides a KX85 and I am sure she is faster then I am, too bad she lives in Alaska. I hope there will be more and more women riders; the more people in this great sport the better.

XRP,
That was way too funny. :) I’ve only met one of the women from this forum and she doesn’t look like a 50 year old fart :p

Seems to me that guys who have been out of the sport for awhile and are just getting back in are most amazed at finding women riders. We've been riding for many years, but probably just in the last couple has it really picked up.

Check out CycleNews KTMNewbie, and look at how many races list Women's class results-- I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

RM_guy, they are masters of disguise! :p

They'll even go so far as to hang a fake ponytail out the back of their helmets!

The club that I ride in has a few women riders. I don't think that any of them race though. The first enduro that I did I had a women rider on my row that did pretty good and there was a girl that was a few rows ahead of me. I also saw the same girl at our mini-enduro for the kids on the saturday before the main event. There are more than a few of "bitty 50's" blasting around camp that have fearless little girls at the controls. I think that its great. If I do someday have a girl I hope that she has a little tomboy in her.
